This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Oversee the complete design process for impactful product experiences across Chess.com’s web, iOS, and Android applications.
• Produce refined, ready-for-production UI designs.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Design, and various stakeholders to define requirements, clarify uncertainties, and influence the product and design trajectory.
• Create features that facilitate player connections and social interactions, including Home, Profile, Friends, Messaging, Notifications, Leaderboards, and more.
• Consider features in relation to the overall design system to enhance consistency, usability, and quality.
• Elevate design standards through exceptional UI, thoughtful interactions, and sound product judgments.
• Recognize product opportunities beyond immediate tasks and develop design strategies.
• Present design concepts, explain decisions, manage differing viewpoints, and align with cross-functional teams.
• Develop and refine high-fidelity prototypes using the Design System, Cursor, and Claude.
• Participate in design critiques and offer constructive feedback to Product Designers.
• Maintain design ownership throughout implementation and ensure alignment between design and code across various platforms.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Product Designer on consumer-facing products or games.
• A portfolio showcasing polished web and mobile UI designs that exemplify craftsmanship, strong product thinking, and accountability.
• Proficiency in UI design principles, including typography, color theory, layout, visual hierarchy, alignment, contrast, interactivity, and user experience heuristics.
• Experience utilizing agentic tools such as Cursor and Claude to create shareable prototypes and rapidly iterate on concepts.
• Proven experience managing complex product tasks from initial problem definition to implementation.
• Strong understanding of design systems.
• A history of influencing product and design choices, clearly presenting proposals, and navigating cross-functional conflicts or competing priorities.
• Familiarity with frontend development and how design translates into code for web and mobile platforms.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proactive remote collaboration, and the ability to work effectively with autonomy and in ambiguous situations.
• Preferred: a passion for chess and familiarity with Chess.com and its product offerings.
• Preferred: experience in designing social features for mobile games or consumer products.
• Preferred: background in motion design.
• Preferred: experience in design engineering or frontend development for web, iOS, or Android.
• Fully remote work from any location.
• Full-time role.
• A global remote team.
• At least 3 hours of overlap with U.S. working hours.
