
Senior Principal – Western Markets, Regulatory Policy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the implementation of United's strategy regarding the development of the Western wholesale electricity market and associated initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Senior Director to develop and refine strategic plans.
• Act as a representative for Advanced Energy United at various regional and state forums.
• Monitor and evaluate policy, regulatory, and governance changes that impact Western electricity markets and regional transmission planning.
• Analyze market design proposals and formulate regulatory comments, testimonies, policy briefs, and technical analyses.
• Prepare communications updates for members and partners.
• Organize the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Sector within ROWE's Stakeholder Representatives Committee.
• Establish sector structure and processes with both member and non-member companies.
• Select or serve as the DER Sector representative on the Stakeholder Representatives Committee.
• Monitor and participate in initiatives related to regional transmission planning.
• Cultivate relationships with policymakers, utilities, market operators, member companies, coalition partners, and stakeholders.
• Coordinate efforts with coalition allies and internal policy teams.
• Support initiatives focused on transmission planning, resource adequacy, interconnection reform, and wholesale market modernization.
• Identify media opportunities in collaboration with the communications team.
• Write blogs, draft press releases, and engage in webinars and other external activities.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to the strategic planning of the organization.
• Travel as necessary, up to 25%, for stakeholder meetings, conferences, and related activities.
• Bachelor's degree in economics, engineering, public policy, law, environmental policy, or a related field.
• An advanced degree is preferred, or equivalent additional market experience may be considered.
• Over 5 years of professional experience in energy policy, with some focus on wholesale electricity markets, utility regulation, or transmission.
• Familiarity with Western wholesale electricity markets and regional market design is advantageous.
• Exceptional analytical, writing, and presentation skills are essential.
• Experience in policy analysis utilizing legal, economic, or engineering frameworks to construct compelling arguments.
• An entrepreneurial mindset, performance-driven orientation, adaptable attitude, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
• Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
• U.S. residency is required.
• A strong preference for residency in the Western region.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% within the region.
