This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Lead and manage mechanical systems that are vital for the functionality of data center infrastructure.
• Create specifications, select key components, determine placement of components, choose fastening methods, and transition designs into manufacturing.
• Direct the implementation of testing processes and the selection of equipment.
• Act as the subject matter expert for single-phase and two-phase liquid cooling applications in hyperscale data centers.
• Establish operational expectations for liquid-cooling racks, manifolds, and associated infrastructure.
• Review CAD and technical data packages to ensure compliance with mechanical design requirements.
• Lead multidisciplinary reviews to verify that plumbing, hydronic systems, components, performance, and codes fulfill requirements.
• Analyze thermal data from engineering and manufacturing tests to validate thermo-mechanical conformity.
• Conduct stress and flow analyses for piping systems.
• Collaborate with project managers on design quotations and identify or mitigate project risks.
• Select pipes, fittings, and valves for chillers, HVAC systems, and liquid-cooling loops.
• Work cross-functionally to ensure compatibility and integration of liquid-cooling systems at the rack, site, equipment, and system levels.
• Prepare technical specifications, testing procedures, installation guidelines, and maintenance instructions.
• Utilize CAD and CAE tools for engineering tasks.
• Assess and optimize manufacturing assembly processes, methods, and equipment.
• Develop detailed mechanical designs for components, subassemblies, and system integration.
• Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing release.
• Conduct testing, debugging, and validation of mechanical systems to support manufacturing processes.
• Manage relationships with mechanical component suppliers and contract manufacturers.
• Suggest R&D project ideas to management.
• Evaluate engineering feasibility and cost-effectiveness in collaboration with management and production staff.
• Implement modular data center design principles for liquid-cooling integration.
• Design cooling systems for prefabricated and skid-mounted deployments, considering transport and vibration loads, shipping constraints, and inter-module interfaces.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field is mandatory.
• At least 8+ years of experience in mechanical system integration is required.
• A proven history of successful system designs and implementations in a relevant industry.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, integration strategies, and system coordination.
• A solid background in liquid cooling technology utilized in data center design and construction.
• Subject matter expertise in single-phase and two-phase liquid cooling applications within hyperscale data centers.
• Proficiency in enclosed and facility-based cooling systems.
• Familiarity with current Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) technologies.
• Knowledge of operational requirements for LC racks, manifolds, and liquid-cooling infrastructures.
• Expertise in leak testing/mitigation, hydrostatic pressure validation, flow resistance analysis, and corrosion assessments.
• Familiarity with ASME and ISO standards.
• Comprehensive understanding of rack manifold manufacturing, design, and function.
• Experience in reviewing CAD/technical data packages and validating mechanical design requirements.
• Knowledge of plumbing and hydronic systems along with applicable code requirements.
• Capability to evaluate thermal data from engineering or manufacturing tests.
• Understanding of fabrication and installation of copper, stainless steel, and aluminum piping.
• Proficiency in stress and flow analysis.
• Skilled in CAD tools, CAE tools, and engineering equipment.
• Ability to create detailed mechanical designs and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Experience in testing, debugging, and validating mechanical systems.
• Familiarity with stage-gate processes in project lifecycle management (PLCM).
• Willingness to travel 20% to 30% as necessary; role may require up to 30% domestic and/or international travel.
• Capacity to work independently as well as part of a global team.
• A Master’s degree and an active Professional Engineer (PE) license are preferred but not mandatory.
• Alternatively, a suitable combination of education, experience, and/or training may be acceptable.
