This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +2 more states.
• Act as the primary software engineer and technical expert for the Innovation Lab.
• Convert business challenges and new opportunities into prototypes, proofs of concept, pilot projects, and production-ready solutions.
• Oversee the technical execution of various innovation initiatives throughout the organization.
• Expedite experimentation and shorten the duration from concept to validation.
• Assist in transitioning successful solutions to wider delivery teams.
• Offer technical leadership and architectural guidance.
• Design, construct, and evaluate comprehensive software solutions and AI-driven applications.
• Quickly prototype ideas and confirm concepts with business stakeholders.
• Set engineering standards, development methodologies, and technical governance.
• Collaborate with ED&T, cybersecurity, architecture, data, and business units.
• Guide engineers and enhance the lab's long-term technical skill set.
• Assess emerging technologies for their relevance to Stryker.
• A Bachelor's degree is mandatory.
• Over 10 years of progressive professional software engineering experience.
• More than 8 years of experience in senior technical leadership roles.
• At least 7 years of extensive full-stack engineering experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in architecting scalable, secure, cloud-native, enterprise-grade systems.
• At least 3 years of recent experience in applied AI, machine learning, or generative AI.
• Proficient in modern software technologies, including TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, Node.js, Python, Django, .NET, Java, Go, Rust, SQL, NoSQL, REST APIs, GraphQL, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with cloud-native and DevOps practices, including AWS and/or Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, serverless architectures, microservices, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, infrastructure as code, secure deployment practices, and DevSecOps.
• Proven experience creating AI-enabled solutions using LLMs, RAG, vector databases, embeddings, prompt engineering, AI agents, model evaluation, workflow orchestration, semantic search, or AI-assisted development tools.
• Proficient in AI-native engineering practices and tools such as GitHub Copilot or Cursor.
• Experience transforming ambiguous business challenges into functional software.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity, privacy, data governance, identity and access management, secure architecture, responsible AI, and enterprise software risk management.
• Experience with integrating enterprise systems, internal data platforms, APIs, identity providers, business applications, and data sources.
• Background in regulated industries or domains such as medical technology, healthcare, life sciences, digital health, financial services, aerospace, or defense.
• Familiarity with regulated software practices, quality management systems, design controls, risk management, validation, auditability, traceability, and healthcare data privacy.
• Experience in building or managing innovation labs, digital factories, rapid prototyping teams, advanced engineering groups, startup studios, internal product incubation teams, or enterprise AI teams.
• Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, SAP, ServiceNow, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Snowflake, Databricks, ERP, CRM, identity, data warehouse, and business intelligence systems.
• Experience with product discovery, design thinking, lean experimentation, customer research, UX design, and prototype validation.
• Flexibility to work remotely, in a hybrid setting, or onsite.
• 20% travel requirement.
