This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Bulgaria, +1 more country.
• Create and implement mathematical optimization models to address intricate industrial challenges.
• Develop algorithms for planning, scheduling, routing, allocation, and decision support systems.
• Collaborate with machine learning engineers to integrate optimization methods with AI solutions.
• Construct scalable optimization pipelines utilizing Python and contemporary software engineering practices.
• Validate optimization models through simulation and experimental methods.
• Evaluate algorithm performance and consistently enhance solution quality and computational efficiency.
• Partner closely with cross-functional teams to grasp business goals and convert them into mathematical models.
• Document methodologies, assumptions, and experimental findings to facilitate knowledge sharing and future advancements.
• MSc or PhD in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or another STEM field.
• In-depth understanding of optimization techniques, including linear programming, mixed-integer programming, constraint programming, nonlinear optimization, and heuristic/metaheuristic algorithms.
• Proven experience in transforming business challenges into mathematical optimization models.
• Proficient programming skills in Python.
• Familiarity with LLMs.
• Capability to merge optimization workflows with LLM automation.
• Experience in developing production-quality software rather than solely research prototypes.
• Background in working with large datasets and creating efficient optimization workflows.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Capacity to work independently in an R&D environment with changing requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English.
• Experience with machine learning or AI-assisted optimization is a plus.
• Familiarity with simulation, stochastic optimization, agent-based modeling, or Markov models is a plus.
• Knowledge of high-performance computing (HPC) is advantageous.
• Experience with cloud platforms and distributed computing is desirable.
• Experience with industrial optimization issues related to logistics, manufacturing, energy, robotics, or supply chain is beneficial.
