This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +6 more states.
• Take charge of and implement earned media strategies for the Offroad and Backcountry sectors.
• Directly oversee the Offroad PR program while managing the agency that supports Backcountry PR.
• Convert product priorities, customer insights, technological advancements, partnerships, and Access & Stewardship initiatives into compelling narratives for endemic, regional, and national audiences.
• Establish and nurture trusted media relationships, leading proactive pitching, handling inbound requests, creating press materials, organizing product demonstrations, curating media experiences, and coordinating priority media events.
• Act as an onX spokesperson, preparing executives and subject-matter experts for interviews, speaking engagements, and external interactions.
• Collaborate with Product, Growth, Community, Paid Marketing, and business leaders to weave earned media into launches, campaigns, and organizational initiatives.
• Provide guidance to stakeholders regarding narrative, timing, audience, and reputational considerations.
• Track coverage, sentiment, industry trends, and emerging issues to refine PR strategies and execution.
• Identify potential reputational risks and aid in crisis communication planning and response.
• Leverage AI and emerging tools for media research, trend observation, narrative crafting, content production, and campaign evaluation, while applying editorial judgment, fact-checking, and brand protection measures.
• Report directly to the PR and Communications Director.
• At least eight years of progressive experience in public relations, communications, or earned media, with ownership of complex programs, campaigns, or business areas.
• Capability to set PR direction and personally execute research, pitching, content creation, spokesperson preparation, media events, and measurement.
• Proven success in building trusted relationships with journalists, managing inbound opportunities, and achieving significant coverage across endemic, regional, and national platforms.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
• Experience managing agency partners and collaborating with Product, Growth, Community, Paid Marketing, and other stakeholders within a matrixed organization.
• Sound judgment in navigating sensitive matters, reputational risks, crisis communications, and competing stakeholder perspectives.
• Ability to define meaningful metrics for PR success and leverage both quantitative and qualitative insights.
• Familiarity with using AI for research, trend monitoring, insight synthesis, content development, and measurement, with a focus on accuracy, confidentiality, brand voice, and reputation.
• Strong project management capabilities with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives in a dynamic environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field—or equivalent experience—and relevant writing or work samples.
• Permanent US work authorization is a requirement for employment with onX.
• Willingness to travel several times each quarter for multiple days to participate in events, host media, and collaborate with the onX team at corporate offices or other strategic locations.
• Candidates must reside in a state where onX is currently able to employ team members; onX cannot employ individuals whose primary work location is in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, West Virginia, or Wyoming.
