Senior Policy Advocate – Global Finance, Food Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Create and execute advocacy strategies aimed at influencing multilateral development banks, with a focus on the World Bank Group while coordinating with other key development banks.

• Oversee project-based advocacy initiatives that promote institutional accountability, enhance environmental and social safeguards, and minimize funding for industrial livestock ventures.

• Evaluate policy developments, pinpoint emerging advocacy opportunities, and suggest strategic responses to further campaign objectives.

• Promote policy solutions that support agroecology and other sustainable food system investments as viable alternatives to factory farming.

• Conduct policy analysis and research that guides advocacy priorities and campaign strategies.

• Generate policy briefs, reports, opinion pieces, and various advocacy materials.

• Partner with research institutions and subject matter experts to formulate evidence-based policy recommendations.

• Utilize policy analysis to bolster accountability mechanisms and institutional oversight efforts.

• Establish and nurture strategic relationships with coalition partners, civil society organizations, researchers, and international stakeholders.

• Collaborate with coalition partners to harmonize policy priorities, advocacy strategies, and campaign activities.

• Represent Friends of the Earth in meetings, conferences, media interactions, and other external platforms.

• Act as a spokesperson on matters related to multilateral development bank financing, industrial animal agriculture, and agroecological food systems.

• Work in conjunction with policy, communications, and campaign teams to ensure cohesive advocacy efforts and unified external messaging.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in public policy, Environmental Studies, International Affairs, Agriculture, Political Science, or a related discipline.

• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in policy advocacy, campaigning, or public policy, including a minimum of 3 years leading policy advocacy initiatives.

• Proven track record in designing and executing strategic advocacy campaigns that merge institutional engagement with public campaigning and coalition mobilization.

• Experience in formulating policy positions, conducting research and analysis, and simplifying complex issues into effective advocacy strategies.

• Outstanding written, verbal, and presentation skills, with experience engaging diverse audiences, including policymakers, financial institutions, media, and civil society organizations.

• Strong skills in project leadership, strategic planning, prioritization, and relationship management.

• Familiarity with topics related to industrial agriculture, food systems, climate policy, environmental justice, or related policy areas.

• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

• Preferred: Graduate degree in Public Policy, International Affairs, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Public Health, or a related field.

• Preferred: Experience in collaboration with multilateral development banks, international financial institutions, or international development policy.

• Preferred: Understanding of environmental and social safeguard frameworks, accountability mechanisms, and sustainable finance.

• Preferred: Experience working with international coalitions and organizations, especially those representing Global South partners.

• Preferred: Proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
