Finance Manager – Real Estate, Facilities

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia.

📋 Description

• Lead the preparation, analysis, and interpretation of financial data for the Real Estate and Facility departments.

• Integrate complex financial information, generate actionable insights, and present recommendations to senior management.

• Foster accountability through data, analytics, and performance metrics while balancing cost management, service quality, and asset preservation.

• Conduct financial analysis and reporting while overseeing a team in these activities.

• Establish, sustain, and perpetually enhance financial systems, processes, and procedures.

• Oversee the annual budgeting process for 600 facilities.

• Create multi-year forecasts and carry out monthly variance analysis against the budget.

• Assist in capital planning and ensure effective control environments.

• Collaborate with centralized Real Estate, decentralized Facility Management, business units, Sustainability, and Finance stakeholders within a matrixed organization.

• Assess emerging tools and technologies to enhance financial efficiency.

• Design, construct, and maintain financial data models using tools such as Power BI, Power Pivot, SQL, and Python.

• Analyze expense performance on a building-by-building basis, identify cost outliers, and promote cost efficiency in facility operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Real Estate is preferred.

• A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in accounting or financial management and analysis.

• Experience in Real Estate and/or Facility Management is essential.

• Strong skills in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.

• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial reporting tools.

• Experience in supporting operational business functions within a complex, multi-site environment.

• Documented success in continuous improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, cost reduction, and service quality.

• Excellent skills in communication, presentation, and stakeholder management.

• At least three years of experience in a supervisory (people management) role.

• Familiarity with large-scale automated financial systems (Oracle), software packages including Hyperion, CFS Business Objects (Webi), MS Excel, Power Query, BI, and Pivot.

• An MBA, CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certifications are preferred.

• Experience supporting facility management, corporate real estate, healthcare facilities, manufacturing facilities, higher education, government, or large campus environments is preferred.

• Knowledge of integrated workplace management systems (IWMS), computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), and asset management programs is preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Power tools (BI, Query, Automate), SQL, Python, or similar data intelligence tools is preferred.

• Understanding of lease accounting standards and capital project accounting is preferred.

• Experience in financial management of facility portfolios, occupancy costs, and operational budgets is preferred.

• Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance program financial evaluation is preferred.

• Development and monitoring of facility performance metrics, KPIs, and benchmarking is preferred.

• Knowledge in energy management, utility cost optimization, and sustainability-related financial analysis is preferred.

• Experience with facilities condition assessments and long-term capital investment planning is preferred.

• Conducting total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis and return-on-investment (ROI) evaluations for facility investments is preferred.

• Application of industry standards and best practices from organizations such as IFMA, BOMA, and CoreNet Global is preferred.
