Senior Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of observability, logging, and alerting within Kubernetes clusters and essential workloads.

• Develop and uphold automation processes for the lifecycle management of Kubernetes clusters, encompassing provisioning, scaling, and upgrades.

• Manage infrastructure cost-optimization initiatives, which involve right-sizing, workload scheduling, and detecting inefficiencies in Kubernetes clusters.

• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to influence infrastructure choices from the design phase through to deployment.

• Detect and resolve reliability bottlenecks proactively before they escalate into incidents.

• Engage in on-call rotation to promptly address service disruption issues.

• Lead incident response efforts, conduct root-cause analysis, and facilitate blameless postmortems for platform-related issues.

• Work together with product, security, and analytics engineers to enhance internal developer and data platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in platform, infrastructure, or SRE roles, which includes managing Kubernetes in production environments at scale and performing day-two operations such as troubleshooting, upgrades, and scaling.

• Knowledge of a leading cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

• Practical experience with Kubernetes cluster autoscaling and workload scheduling systems (Karpenter, Cluster AutoScaler).

• Expertise in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Crossplane, Pulumi, or similar solutions.

• Direct experience with observability frameworks like OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and eBPF.

• Understanding of GitOps-based delivery methods and tools like Argo CD and Kargo.

• Skilled in managing and deploying Kubernetes applications using tools such as Kustomize and Helm.

• Strong foundation in Linux systems, including low-level fundamentals.

• Comprehensive understanding of web and network protocols and standards (HTTP, TLS, DNS, etc.).

• Proficient programming skills in at least one modern programming language beyond basic scripting (e.g., Go, Python, Ruby).

• Comfortable collaborating with AI as a partner in your work.
