This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Enhance the systems that drive Midnite as it expands into various markets, beginning with the launch in Canada.
• Design, construct, and refine backend and platform systems that support Midnite’s fundamental sports betting and gaming product.
• Focus on scalability, reliability, service isolation, and regional preparedness.
• Establish clear boundaries and interfaces across services and data streams.
• Contribute to systems that span multiple regions and support future market growth.
• Enhance observability, deployment practices, performance, and operational maturity.
• Collaborate across app-layer systems and foundational platform elements.
• Contribute to production code, conduct code reviews, and engage in technical design.
• Identify failure points, mitigate risks, and bolster platform resilience.
• Take the lead on complex technical projects from high-level direction to successful delivery.
• Collaborate with the Platform team on architectural and implementation decisions.
• Work with product engineering teams to address platform changes that impact product systems.
• Clearly communicate risks and obstacles across different time zones.
• Assist in fostering a high-ownership engineering culture within the Canada team.
• Significant senior-level backend or platform engineering experience.
• Proven track record of independently delivering complex technical projects.
• Strong backend proficiency in Python or a similar modern programming language such as Go, Rust, Java, or Scala, with the capability to quickly adapt to Python.
• In-depth understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and architectural trade-offs.
• Experience with microservices, service boundaries, eventual consistency, data separation, or reliability engineering.
• Comfortable working across application-layer systems and platform/infrastructure aspects.
• Excellent written communication skills and the ability to work effectively across time zones.
• High level of ownership, sound judgment, and ability to operate in uncertain situations.
• Proficient in Flask or FastAPI, Pytest, Mypy, Docker, PostgreSQL, SQS or Kafka, S3, and Terraform.
• Experience with AWS-hosted environments.
• Must possess the right to work in Canada.
• Must currently reside in Canada.
• Must meet current or future work sponsorship requirements in Canada.
