Platform Engineer, Content Delivery, Engineering Tools

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Provide support and management for the Content Delivery Network (CDN), which encompasses caching strategies, traffic routing, performance enhancement, and edge service configurations.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment processes, and software delivery workflows.

• Diagnose and resolve issues within the content delivery infrastructure, including both internal and eCommerce applications.

• Create automation and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions to boost platform scalability, consistency, and operational efficiency.

• Oversee platform health, performance, and adoption using observability tools, implementing improvements based on operational insights.

• Engage in on-call support rotation, incident response, root cause analysis, platform upgrades, capacity planning, and initiatives focused on continuous improvement.

• Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, standards, and support playbooks.

• Assess emerging technologies that could enhance developer and customer experiences.

• Support engineering platforms, including GitLab, GitLab Runners, Sonatype Nexus, Cursor, and other developer productivity tools.

• Collaborate with application development, Site Reliability Engineering, Information Security, Infrastructure, and Architecture teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience working with Content Delivery Networks (CDN), preferably with Fastly.

• Proficient knowledge of web technologies including HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, SSL/TLS, caching, load balancing, and application delivery concepts.

• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services, ideally Azure.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code principles and tools such as Terraform.

• Experience using observability platforms like Splunk and Dynatrace.

• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis abilities across distributed systems.

• Skilled in developing scripts and automation using languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, curl, nslookup, dig, or similar.

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.

• Capacity to balance operational support duties with engineering and automation projects.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Advanced experience in Fastly administration, including VCL development, edge logic, traffic steering, caching optimization, and resolving complex content delivery issues.

• Experience supporting large-scale eCommerce platforms, with a solid understanding of website performance, availability, and customer experience factors.

• Experience managing Git-based source control platforms, preferably GitLab.

• Knowledge of web application security concepts such as Web Application Firewalls (WAF), bot mitigation, traffic management, and edge security controls.

• Experience in implementing platform automation and self-service capabilities that enhance developer productivity and minimize operational overhead.

• Familiarity with software supply chain security, artifact governance, and secure software delivery practices.

• Experience in evaluating, implementing, governing, or supporting AI-assisted development tools and workflows within an enterprise context.

• Proven experience in leading platform modernization efforts or promoting the adoption of engineering best practices across multiple development teams.
