Senior Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop self-service workflows for infrastructure provisioning, service deployment, and failure recovery.

• Enhance CI/CD pipelines, deployment validations, progressive delivery, and automated rollback processes.

• Ensure production changes are safer and facilitate easier recovery.

• Optimize AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure while balancing reliability, security, costs, and maintenance.

• Strengthen observability, alerting, service-level objectives (SLOs), and capacity planning.

• Utilize incident reports and support trends to prioritize enhancements.

• Enhance tools, environments, reusable contexts, and access boundaries for agent-assisted engineering.

• Collaborate with security teams to manage permissions, secrets, and critical actions.

• Work alongside product and data engineers to diagnose performance and reliability issues across application code, containers, databases, networking, and cloud services.

• Convey technical insights, document decisions, and mentor team members.

• Engage in platform on-call duties and incident response efforts.

• Create a data-driven plan and implement initial improvements.

• Minimize manual intervention, operational noise, recurring incidents, and coordination overhead.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, SRE, or similar infrastructure roles, or equivalent demonstrated expertise.

• Extensive, hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including configuration, secrets management, deployment, scaling, and troubleshooting in production.

• Proven experience in building and managing AWS infrastructure for production systems with significant traffic and availability requirements.

• Strong background in infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD, including tools such as Terraform and GitLab CI or similar alternatives.

• Proficient in utilizing metrics, logs, traces, and alerting to comprehend system behavior.

• Capable of writing, reading, debugging, and maintaining automation and tooling, as well as investigating issues across application and infrastructure boundaries.

• Demonstrated examples of enhancing delivery safety, reducing operational toil, or enabling engineers to operate independently.

• Excellent written communication skills and experience leading technical projects across teams without depending on formal authority.

• Familiarity with cloud security, least-privilege access, secrets management, SOC 2, or GDPR is particularly advantageous.

• Competency in application performance tuning, PHP/Laravel, database operations, and infrastructure for AI agents are additional assets.

• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, Datadog, Linux, and PHP/Laravel.
