Senior Model Governance Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and cultivate a team of model governance specialists, encompassing hiring, onboarding, coaching, conducting performance reviews, and fostering career development.

• Establish objectives, delegate tasks, balance workloads, and manage team capacity to achieve governance milestones and align with business priorities.

• Evaluate team deliverables for precision, completeness, and consistency; offer technical guidance and address delivery challenges.

• Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture.

• Oversee model governance documentation, which includes details on model owners, purpose, measurements, Model Cards, intended use, assumptions, limitations, known risks, explainability, and evaluation metrics.

• Maintain awareness of the current status of model governance reviews.

• Define team metrics and communicate progress, risks, and resource requirements to leadership.

• Take ownership of and prioritize the model governance review queue.

• Articulate weaknesses in testing methodologies and confidence levels of metrics.

• Ensure the maintenance of model data lineage and records for training, validation, and monitoring datasets.

• Collaborate with model owners and observability teams regarding monitoring responsibilities, review triggers, and escalation procedures.

• Monitor overdue reviews and escalate significant risks, exceptions, and unresolved concerns.

• Coordinate governance priorities and dependencies with engineering, data science, risk, compliance, and product teams.

• Supervise the preparation for model reviews and ensure that evidence and documentation are accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Enhance governance workflows, templates, tools, and automation; suggest broader changes to the Director.

• Recruit, develop, evaluate, discipline, and manage time and attendance for team members.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related technical or quantitative discipline.

• Over 7 years of experience in model governance, model validation, analytics, or comparable engineering roles.

• At least 2 years of direct experience in people management.

• Proven experience in setting team priorities, coaching technical professionals, managing performance, and delivering outcomes across multiple stakeholders.

• Experience in overseeing model documentation, approval workflows, controls, lifecycle tracking, and audit or governance reviews.

• Solid understanding of AI/ML development, deployment, validation, benchmarking, and monitoring processes.

• Capability to review technical implementations and guide governance decisions effectively.

• Experience utilizing documentation and tracking tools to manage governance activities.

• Awareness of considerations related to data privacy and security.

• Familiarity with managing projects and workflows using Jira.

• Experience with documentation management in Confluence.

• Skills in people management, clear communication, presentation, collaboration, organization, attention to detail, sound judgment, and comfort working in risk-aware or regulated environments.

• Preferred: working knowledge of Python and/or Java, SQL, databases, CSV, JSON, SDKs, APIs, integration patterns, and AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Preferred: experience in evaluating fraud, risk, or decision-making models.
