Senior Microgrid Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Lead and design projects related to microgrids and renewable energy.

• Utilize automation technologies and microgrid control systems, including SCADA, EMS, IEDs, HMIs, and RTUs.

• Implement microgrid concepts such as islanding, grid-connected operation, energy management, control strategies, and power flow management.

• Engage in Functional Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

• Conduct Hardware in the Loop (HIL) testing.

• Leverage knowledge of renewable energy technologies, including solar PV, wind turbines, batteries, and other Distributed Energy Resources (DERs).

• Apply power electronics expertise to renewable energy systems and microgrids, focusing on inverters and converters.

• Execute planning and engineering tasks for telecommunication systems and projects.

• Establish project schedules and budgets.

• Create drawings and specifications for utility telecommunication system projects.

• Collaborate with internal engineering teams, external contractors, and utility construction crews.

• Travel to project sites to gather information about existing conditions.

• Interface with utility clients.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).

• Four to eight years of relevant microgrid experience.

• Strong understanding of microgrids and renewable energy.

• Experience in Power system Protection and Control (P&C).

• Ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize a range of client software applications and databases.

• Proficient in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.

• Capability to occasionally perform fieldwork in challenging terrain to access remote project sites.

• Proficiency in CAD software for electrical system design.

• Experience with simulation tools for modeling and analysis.

• Familiarity with programming languages typically used in microgrid control systems.

• Knowledge of communication protocols such as DNP, SEL, MMS, and Modbus.

• Experience with system modeling software like ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, and SKM.

• Preferred experience with DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61131 Programming, AcSELerator RTAC, SEL 5030 Quickset, GE Cimplicity, and Protocol Test Software.

• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification is favorable.

• A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
