Senior Manager, Financial Planning and Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Create financial models for new projects, programs, and partnerships while developing reusable tools for external budgets.

• Manage financial processes related to donor budgets, encompassing templates, guidelines, metrics, and analyses.

• Work in partnership with program and functional teams to conduct financial analyses and explore future scenarios.

• Oversee responses for financial due diligence and uphold donor-facing policies and practices.

• Project quarterly, annual, and long-term revenue and cash flows, modeling alternative scenarios as needed.

• Monitor predicted revenues, cash flows, and donor restrictions.

• Carry out the annual budget process with the support of global functions.

• Deliver reports and analyses for monthly Budget vs Actual assessments and quarterly forecasting procedures.

• Analyze innovation opportunities and supply budgeting, reporting, and analysis for pilot initiatives.

• Assist in the development of new processes and systems for expanding workstreams and transitioning expanding programs.

• Provide financial backing for Social Return on Investment calculations and resource allocation metrics.

• Design and construct organization-wide financial reporting models.

• Enhance Netsuite reporting tools and responsibly utilize AI to boost finance team efficiency.

• Prepare financial status and forecast documents for the Executive Committee, Board, and Board Finance Committee.

• Establish financial processes, reporting, templates, and budgets for new grants and projects.

• Enact enterprise risk tracking and action registries.

• Manage insurance policies and other risk mitigation strategies.

• Ensure adequate funds are accessible in each region in collaboration with Country Finance Managers and the Head of Finance.

• Direct global policies and procedures concerning risk management, treasury, and legal matters.

• Lead the development of operations dashboards, metrics, and global protocols.

• Oversee US financial operations, procurement, and compliance with regulations.

• Drive strategic Finance and Operations projects and cross-functional initiatives.

• Report directly to the CFO while collaborating with senior leadership and the fundraising team.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline.

• 5–10+ years of progressively responsible experience in financial analysis, budgeting, and reporting.

• Proven experience in designing and generating value-added reports for both internal and external stakeholders.

• Demonstrated experience in implementing financial tools and enhancing the timeliness, accuracy, and utility of financial data.

• Highly desirable experience with nonprofit programs, grant finance, and donor budgets.

• Proficiency in Netsuite.

• Familiarity with Google Workspace.

• Proficiency in business intelligence tools.

• Strong skills in Excel/Google Sheets.

• Excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.

• Outstanding execution skills.

• Ability to embrace new technology and effectively apply AI in daily operations.

• Capability to convey financial concepts to non-financial audiences.

• Strategic mindset and capacity to support organizational growth and transformation.

• Solutions-oriented with a proactive approach.

• Attention to detail and ability to produce high-level summarized analyses.

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-country environment.

• Commitment to Spark’s mission and values.

• Willingness to travel to Africa periodically.

• Availability for US East Coast time schedules and coordination across time zones with Africa.

• MBA or professional accounting certification (CPA or equivalent) is desirable but not mandatory.
