This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Lead a dynamic, high-impact data team of three, comprising data engineers and analysts, while establishing the technical standards and directly tackling the most challenging problems.
• Oversee the complete data pipeline from the warehouse to internal dashboards and external reporting, ensuring consistency and reliability throughout the data stack.
• Drive technical recommendations regarding data infrastructure choices and vendor selections in collaboration with the CTO.
• Develop structured, repeatable insurance reporting processes in partnership with the Risk team, including actuarial and bordereau reports.
• Integrate fragmented analyses across the organization by establishing unified reporting standards and enhancing data accessibility.
• Facilitate self-service analytics capabilities while upholding data governance and quality standards.
• Work closely with the CTO and cross-functional teams to define the data roadmap and ensure alignment with business goals and the broader technical strategy.
• Report directly to the CTO.
• Allocate approximately 60% of time to hands-on engineering and 40% to leadership responsibilities.
• Proficient hands-on experience with the complete data stack, including data warehouses like Snowflake or BigQuery.
• Familiarity with dbt.
• Experience utilizing ETL tools such as Fivetran, Stitch, or Airflow.
• Proficiency with BI platforms such as Tableau or Looker.
• A minimum of 6 years in building and managing production data pipelines.
• Experience leading a small data team as a player-coach in a fast-paced environment.
• Background in fintech or insurtech.
• Experience handling financial product reporting, including actuarial reports or loan tapes.
• Proven experience in managing and mentoring data engineers and analysts while also contributing as an individual contributor.
• Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to comprehend and address organizational data needs.
