Senior Java Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kosovo.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the design and practical implementation of scalable APIs, distributed systems, and backend services for applications requiring high availability.

• Take ownership of the entire software development lifecycle, from architecture and technical design to implementation, automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support.

• Sustain and enhance systems for performance, scalability, security, and reliability at scale.

• Collaborate with product owners, designers, QA engineers, and developers to convert business objectives into scalable technical solutions.

• Provide technical leadership through coding, conducting code reviews, architectural guidance, design discussions, mentoring, task breakdown, and promoting engineering best practices.

• Establish and maintain standards for technical excellence and production readiness, including clean architecture, resilient design, quality gates, release discipline, operational ownership, and pragmatic technical decision-making.

• Design and evolve event-driven architectures and asynchronous integrations utilizing Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, and related messaging patterns.

• Enhance shared libraries, internal platforms, developer tools, CI/CD workflows, and observability solutions.

• Advocate for responsible AI adoption throughout development and SDLC activities to enhance code quality, testing, documentation, productivity, and delivery predictability.

• Influence the architecture, engineering standards, culture, code quality, delivery practices, and team effectiveness for the primary R&D team in Prishtina.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of backend development experience with a strong command of Java and object-oriented design, including a minimum of 2–3 years in a technical lead or team lead capacity.

• Advanced practical experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem, encompassing the development of RESTful APIs and microservices.

• Robust understanding of design patterns, system architecture, distributed systems, and scalability principles.

• Practical experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and message-driven systems using Apache Kafka and RabbitMQ, including producers, consumers, topics, retries, dead-letter handling, and idempotent processing.

• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms.

• Proficient in automated unit, integration, and performance testing.

• Proven experience in building, operating, troubleshooting, and continuously enhancing production-grade, high-load systems.

• Strong emphasis on technical excellence, production readiness, observability, monitoring, alerting, and shared development infrastructure.

• Ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

• Excellent communication skills and hands-on team lead experience with a proactive, ownership-driven mindset.

• Experience in applying AI-assisted development practices throughout the SDLC.

• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

• Preferred: experience with cloud-native architectures, microservices, event and message schema evolution, delivery guarantees, distributed transaction patterns, observability platforms, incident response practices, and performance tuning for distributed systems.
