Senior Java Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage scalable production backend services for the Logistics Courier Pay Network.

• Design and oversee the services that support the courier network.

• Take full ownership of backend systems, encompassing data modeling, event flows, deployment, and operational tasks.

• Contribute to the framework of an event-driven platform.

• Provide robust, high-performance, and observable backend services.

• Collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to implement logistics features.

• Advocate for modern backend development practices.

• Mentor colleagues and help establish backend engineering standards.

• Create RESTful APIs utilizing gRPC, GraphQL, or AsyncAPI when applicable.

• Implement event-driven architectures, pub/sub mechanisms, asynchronous processing, idempotency, and Domain Driven Design (DDD) patterns.

• Oversee database management, caching, schema design, query optimization, and migrations.

• Deploy production systems on AWS/Azure utilizing Kubernetes.

• Maintain CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, GitOps, and performance/load testing methodologies.

• Monitor metrics, logs, APM, and distributed tracing with Datadog or similar tools.

• Leverage AI agents for automated pull requests, debugging, code generation, refactoring, and reviews.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building and managing production backend services at scale.

• High proficiency in Java, Quarkus, Spring Boot, or comparable JVM frameworks.

• Extensive experience with event-driven architectures, including Kafka, SQS, and SNS.

• Strong understanding of Domain Driven Design (DDD) principles for distributed systems.

• Practical experience with both relational and NoSQL databases, such as Aurora RDS, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and DynamoDB.

• Experience with production deployment on AWS/Azure using Kubernetes (EKS).

• Strong familiarity with observability tools like Datadog.

• Experience in designing RESTful APIs.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using Terraform/CloudFormation.

• Experience with automated performance/load testing frameworks.

• Genuine enthusiasm for AI-assisted development and agentic engineering.

• Practical experience with AI tools and agents such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar platforms.

• Collaborative approach and experience working through Agile software development cycles.

• Willingness to consent to the disclosure of personal information for a background check.
