This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India, +3 more countries.
• Design and uphold the target-state architecture for Linux server and desktop infrastructure in on-premises, virtualized, and cloud environments.
• Take ownership of the architecture and roadmap for the overall open-source infrastructure stack.
• Establish standards for operating system builds, patching, hardening, and lifecycle management.
• Architect and supervise infrastructure automation to ensure consistent, repeatable deployments.
• Lead the assessment and integration of virtualization and containerization platforms.
• Create solutions for high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity.
• Manage capacity planning and performance engineering.
• Define and implement security architecture in collaboration with Cyber Security teams.
• Ensure compliance with open-source licenses and governance.
• Act as the technical escalation point for intricate incidents and problem management.
• Generate architecture documentation, design decisions, and roadmaps; present these to stakeholders.
• Assess technologies and vendors, providing recommendations for build-vs-buy and open-source-vs-commercial options.
• Mentor system administrators and engineers.
• Collaborate with outsourcing providers, application owners, architects, network/security teams, and cloud teams.
• A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
• Over 7 years of experience in administering and/or architecting Linux environments, including several years in an architecture or technical lead position.
• Profound expertise in at least one major enterprise Linux distribution, such as RHEL or SUSE, with working knowledge of others.
• Extensive hands-on experience with open-source infrastructure beyond the OS, including web/app servers, MySQL, PostgreSQL, message queues, and identity providers.
• Strong practical experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and Terraform.
• Understanding of open-source OS in Azure cloud and containerization/orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience in designing high availability, disaster recovery, and backup/restore strategies.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
• Practical knowledge of Linux security hardening, patch management, and compliance frameworks like CIS and ISO 27001.
• Awareness of open-source licensing models, including GPL, Apache, and MIT.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
• Experience with monitoring and observability stacks like Prometheus/Grafana, Nagios, Zabbix, and ELK/Splunk.
• Familiarity with Azure and hybrid-cloud Linux workloads.
• Active participation or involvement in open-source projects or communities.
• Exposure to enterprise storage architectures, such as SAN/NAS.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes and enterprise architecture frameworks like TOGAF.
• Strong architectural and analytical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication abilities, capable of explaining complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work autonomously in a senior, low-supervision role.
