Senior Infrastructure Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of key infrastructure components, encompassing databases, Kubernetes, version upgrades, and platform tools.

• Deliver daily infrastructure support to ensure smooth operations.

• Create streamlined processes that empower engineers, non-engineers, and AI agents to safely test and deploy changes.

• Access and manage AWS accounts, Kubernetes clusters, monitoring systems, and CI/CD pipelines.

• Review and enhance runbooks and architectural documentation for clarity and effectiveness.

• Implement infrastructure enhancements, including version upgrades and monitoring adjustments.

• Engage in and eventually take responsibility for the on-call rotation.

• Serve as the primary resource for everyday infrastructure inquiries.

• Minimize recurring issues that lead to alerts.

• Develop sandbox environments tailored for AI agents or non-engineers.

• Independently lead infrastructure projects.

• Ensure system uptime of 99.9% or higher.

• Decrease alert frequency while identifying cost-saving opportunities.

• Enhance observability to enable AI agents to manage part of the on-call responsibilities.

• Document infrastructure-related decisions comprehensively.

• Report to the VP of Engineering while collaborating with infrastructure, product engineering, and non-engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Approximately 7 or more years of experience in infrastructure, platform, DevOps, or SRE roles.

• Proven experience managing production infrastructure on AWS at scale, including managed relational databases, networking, and load balancing.

• Proficient in operating Kubernetes in a production setting, including upgrades, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.

• Skilled in managing infrastructure as code.

• Experienced in maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

• Knowledgeable in building monitoring and alerting systems.

• Capable of diagnosing intricate, multi-service incidents.

• Experienced in reducing cloud costs through right-sizing and reserved capacity strategies.

• Proven ability to write clear runbooks, documentation, and decision records.

• Experience in owning production infrastructure for a product where downtime incurs costs for customers.

• Familiar with carrying a pager for managed systems and enhancing on-call rotations.

• Experienced in leading significant upgrades or migrations with minimal or no impact on customers.

• Proven track record in developing self-service tools or paved paths embraced by engineers.

• Experience in working within a small infrastructure team.

• Ability to participate in a three-person on-call rotation and respond to alerts outside regular working hours.

• Nice to have: familiarity with Cloudflare, ephemeral or sandbox environments, or email sending infrastructure.
