This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the key internal HR leader and a trusted advisor to the CFO, executive team, and management.
• Formulate an HR strategy that aligns with business goals and creates a scalable operating model for a 70-person international organization.
• Provide guidance to leadership on organizational structure, workforce planning, compensation, performance management, employee relations, and HR risk management.
• Set HR metrics and provide regular reports to the CFO and executive team.
• Take over daily U.S. HR operations from the current U.S. contractor and collaborate with the New Zealand consultant.
• Define HR processes, roles, approval authorities, and documentation standards.
• Create consistent employee lifecycle processes from hiring and onboarding through compensation adjustments, performance evaluations, leave, benefits, and offboarding.
• Ensure the accuracy of employee records while automating or simplifying HR administration tasks.
• Evaluate HR technology, suggest a scalable future state, and lead the selection and implementation of HRIS.
• Assess payroll processes and platforms, leading future payroll implementations or migrations.
• Oversee U.S. payroll, currently managed through Deel, including data inputs, employee modifications, deductions, approvals, and reconciliations.
• Collaborate with Finance on payroll review, approval, reconciliation, and reporting.
• Create and maintain HR policies and standard operating procedures.
• Establish HR controls, including requirements for approval, segregation of duties, documentation standards, system access controls, and periodic reviews.
• Document and audit essential HR processes for compliance.
• Ensure adherence to U.S. employment law and coordinate with New Zealand requirements.
• Manage employment documentation, record retention, employee relations issues, investigations, and terminations.
• Provide support to employees and managers regarding HR policies, employee relations, performance, and workplace issues.
• Coach managers on effective people management, feedback, and documentation practices.
• Enhance performance management and assist in compensation planning, benchmarking, salary reviews, promotions, and incentives.
• Oversee benefits programs and manage broker relationships.
• Establish recruiting and hiring processes while managing external recruiters as necessary.
• Deliver a consistent onboarding experience, including approvals, documentation, background checks, payroll setup, benefits enrollment, and system access.
• Within the first 6–12 months, assess the HR landscape, transition U.S. contractor responsibilities, reinforce controls, select and implement an HRIS, evaluate the U.S. payroll context, and establish monitoring and compliance reviews.
• More than 5 years of progressive HR experience, including serving as the primary or senior HR resource in a small to mid-sized organization.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical HR experience.
• In-depth knowledge of U.S. employment practices and compliance obligations.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing HR policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Background in managing payroll processes and providers.
• Experience in evaluating, implementing, or administering HRIS platforms.
• Comprehensive understanding of the full employee lifecycle, including employee relations and sensitive personnel issues.
• Excellent organizational, project management, documentation, and communication abilities.
• Capability to work independently with minimal administrative support while effectively collaborating with senior executives.
• Experience in SaaS, technology, or private-equity-backed companies, preferably supporting a distributed or remote workforce.
• International HR experience, especially in New Zealand.
• Familiarity with Deel or similar platforms, and with implementing a new HRIS or payroll system.
• Proven track record of building or scaling an HR function, including developing HR controls in partnership with Finance.
• Possession of SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, or equivalent certification.
• Annual performance bonus: 10% of base salary.
