Senior Fullstack Software Engineer – Backend-focused, Java/Spring Boot

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Peru, +3 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take the lead on backend architecture decisions and modernization strategies for Java/Spring Boot services.

• Create scalable and secure REST APIs and microservices utilizing Postgres-backed data stores.

• Advocate for best practices in code quality, testing, and CI/CD automation.

• Collaborate across functions with frontend, DevOps, and product teams across various JavaScript framework stacks.

• Guide mid-level engineers and foster a culture of engineering excellence.

• Ensure performance optimization and monitoring through Datadog.

• Direct the phased migration from legacy backend systems to a modern service architecture.

• Integrate stakeholder feedback and real-world retail workflows into system design.

• Revamp legacy platforms into scalable, maintainable, and performance-oriented services.

• Work closely with frontend engineers, DevOps, and product stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Over 6 years of experience in Backend/Fullstack Engineering.

• More than 5 years of hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot for developing enterprise-grade REST APIs and microservices.

• Robust experience with Postgres-backed data layers and API design tailored for high-traffic retail systems.

• Familiarity with modern JS/TS frontend frameworks (React, Next.js, Angular, or Vue) sufficient for integrating and troubleshooting end-to-end across our multi-framework frontend stack.

• Strong understanding of phased modernization strategies for legacy backend systems.

• Extensive experience with automated testing for backend services (unit, integration, contract) and awareness of Playwright/Jest for E2E coordination.

• Experience in managing CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.

• Expertise in implementing monitoring and observability strategies with Datadog.

• Experience in retail, store operations, or supply chain systems is a strong plus.

• Comfortable engaging with stakeholders and incorporating real-world user feedback.

• Excellent communication skills in English (C1 preferred, strong B2 may be considered).

• Must reside in and have work authorization for Latin America.

• Significant overlap with Mountain Standard Time (MST).
