Senior Full Stack Engineer – AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Develop and deliver comprehensive product features, encompassing the user interface.

• Engage across frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI pipeline.

• Collaborate with the grant team to address real user challenges.

• Create user-friendly interfaces for grant writers.

• Take ownership of issues from discovery to production deployment.

• Enhance workflows, automation, and the application submission process.

• Elevate AI capabilities through prompt engineering, context management, cost control, and multi-provider AI configurations.

• Utilize AWS Bedrock, Anthropic, and OpenAI technologies.

• Construct and manage AI pipelines in a production environment.

• Establish AI evaluation practices, including prompt quality, model selection, and regression detection.

• Collaborate with AI agents and tool-calling workflows when applicable.

• Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot the live production environment.

• Work with Sentry, CloudWatch, and Postgres for performance monitoring.

• Contribute to AWS infrastructure operating on ECS and RDS.

• Maintain and enhance production reliability and performance.

• Influence technical architecture, code quality, engineering standards, and the technical roadmap.

• Assist in establishing engineering processes and technical standards.

• Build scalable technical foundations as one of the initial engineering hires.

⛳️ Requirements

• Multiple years of professional experience with TypeScript and Node.js.

• In-depth knowledge of Postgres, including JSONB, query performance, and migrations.

• Full-stack expertise with Next.js 15, React Query, Express, BullMQ, AWS (ECS, RDS), and Terraform.

• Practical experience in building and operating AI pipelines in production, beyond simple AI API integrations.

• Familiarity with LLMs and AI-driven applications.

• Comprehensive understanding of prompt engineering, context management, model selection, and AI evaluation.

• Strong debugging skills in live production environments.

• High level of autonomy and ownership, with the ability to identify issues, develop solutions, and independently close the loop.

• Usability-first approach and capability to create effective end-user interfaces.

• Comfortable in an environment where not everything is clearly defined.

• AI-native software development methodology, with experience using Claude Code or Cursor.

• Proficiency in German at a B1 level or higher is a plus.

• Experience with AI agents and tool-calling workflows in production is a plus.
