Senior Full-Stack Developer – Java, React

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Implement customer-facing features using feature flags within small, reviewed pull requests.

• Enhance current code by breaking down large services, incorporating tests, and updating backend code to Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.x.

• Develop component and integration tests as a standard part of feature development.

• Prepare repositories for AI integration through context files, custom commands, and secure agent-work methodologies.

• Work collaboratively across pod boundaries within a predominantly shared codebase.

• Engage in code reviews, pod ceremonies, and estimation sessions.

• Partner with the Quality Assistance team to create end-to-end tests.

• Investigate and resolve production issues within the pod’s domain.

• Document insights and decisions made throughout the process.

• Mentor mid-level engineers and progress toward pod-lead responsibilities.

• Take part in hiring processes by serving on interview panels.

• Contribute to a luxury retail client’s e-commerce platform, online storefronts, and ERP integrations.

• Assist in modernizing the platform and speeding up software delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of professional software engineering experience, genuinely full-stack.

• Proficient in Java and Spring Boot, including JPA/Hibernate.

• Experience with database migrations (Flyway or similar).

• Strong skills in relational data modeling.

• Advanced knowledge of React and TypeScript with modern Next.js, including App Router, Server Components, and contemporary data-fetching patterns.

• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL.

• Experience in modernizing or maintaining a large existing production codebase.

• Full accountability for delivered work, including unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.

• Familiarity with trunk-based development, small frequent PRs, feature flags, and adherence to module boundaries.

• Proficient in AI-assisted, agentic development practices, including Claude Code, context engineering, AI code review, and test generation.

• Good security hygiene, including secure input handling and reviewed PRs and CI.

• Strong REST API design and third-party service integration experience.

• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Proactive in communication and documentation.

• Excellent spoken and written English skills.

• Significant overlap with US Eastern Time.

• Legal authorization to work in the country of residence.
