Senior FOIA Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Promptly acknowledge incoming FOIA requests, referrals, consultations, appeals, and Privacy Act inquiries.

• Perform reviews for responsiveness, eliminate duplicate records, and exercise judgment on fee category designations, waivers, and expedited processing.

• Draft search memoranda for relevant record custodians.

• Thoroughly review extensive sets of records.

• Apply necessary redactions to responsive records per FOIA, USDA’s FOIA regulations, and pertinent case law.

• Oversee administrative files in line with internal standard operating procedures.

• Coordinate and manage extensive collection efforts that involve multiple components.

• Comply with USDA’s widely utilized confidentiality statutes.

• Assist in the Freedom of Information Act program and ensure adherence to FOIA regulations and guidelines.

• Manage Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and follow relevant safeguarding protocols.

⛳️ Requirements

• Public Trust Eligibility is required.

• Over 5 years of experience in FOIA processing.

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.

• Federal FOIA processing experience, whether as a federal employee or contractor.

• Experience with processing complex FOIA requests involving submitter outreach, consultations, and referrals.

• Knowledge of FOIAXpress or comparable FOIA tracking/processing systems.

• Skilled in delivering meticulous and detail-oriented work.

• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

• Strong analytical and writing capabilities.

• Only U.S. citizens are eligible for this position.

• Capability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination.
