This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Oversee the quarterly and annual financial closing procedures for the organization and its associated entities.
• Create journal entries, perform account reconciliations, manage accruals, consolidations, and prepare supporting financial schedules.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and underlying accounting records within NetSuite.
• Conduct variance analyses and investigate any unusual or unexpected fluctuations in revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities, and trading outcomes.
• Uphold accounting policies, close processes, reporting templates, and other finance-related documentation.
• Manage the accounting, reconciliation, and oversight of power-market settlement activities.
• Review and reconcile settlement statements from ISOs/RTOs, exchanges, brokers, and other trading partners against trade records, internal reporting systems, bank activities, and the general ledger.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve any discrepancies in settlements, missing transactions, and data quality concerns.
• Coordinate the timely preparation and filing of the company's federal and state tax returns.
• Maintain tax compliance calendars and monitor all filing and information reporting deadlines.
• Review tax returns and supporting calculations produced by external accountants to ensure completeness and consistency with the company's accounting records.
• Organize financial statement audits, reviews, and other engagements conducted by external accountants.
• Prepare audit schedules, account analyses, supporting documents, and responses to auditor inquiries.
• Ensure financial records and reporting packages are comprehensive, accurate, and submitted within required timelines.
• Keep organized documentation that supports financial statements, tax returns, settlements, and regulatory submissions.
• Assist with accounts payable, expense accounting, and the allocation of shared expenses among entities or trading books.
• Review financial obligations and payment schedules arising from contracts and vendor agreements.
• Support the preparation and allocation of expenses to trader books.
• Provide backup assistance for other essential back-office activities as needed.
• CPA designation or an equivalent recognized professional accounting qualification in good standing.
• At least three years of relevant professional accounting experience after obtaining the CPA designation.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
• Background in public accounting (Big 4 or equivalent) through an articling program.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
• Preferred experience in power trading, energy trading, commodities, financial markets, hedge funds, or any trading-related environment.
• Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets and power-market settlement statements is preferred.
• Experience with NetSuite — including implementation, configuration, saved searches, workflows, reporting, or system integrations — is preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in leveraging automation and technology to enhance accounting efficiency and reporting quality is preferred.
