Senior Estimator – Commercial Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Oversee daily operations of the Estimating Department.

• Manage and allocate opportunities utilizing established systems and processes.

• Maintain team and talent equilibrium while factoring in deadlines, risk management, and submission complexity.

• Lead and implement estimating initiatives in line with company goals.

• Identify risks and opportunities concerning pricing strategies and suggest solutions.

• Evaluate the effects of decisions and alterations on bid submissions and integrate key insights into future bids.

• Educate team members on key insights and industry/company best practices.

• Break down complex projects and categorize work into functional stages for estimator/team assignments.

• Create systems and processes to enhance the estimating team's efficiency and accuracy.

• Manage team members' communications, presentations, and negotiations with subcontractors, construction managers, architects, and engineers.

• Direct estimating teams and/or independently develop comprehensive proposals for client opportunities.

• Prepare program management plans, Q&A responses, project concern identifications, and bid document submissions.

• Lead the estimating team in a deadline-oriented environment.

• Establish and maintain peer and subordinate bid coaching, evaluation, and approval procedures.

• Oversee or directly prepare quantity take-offs, assumed specifications, and market-accurate cost factors.

• Supervise or directly assess subcontractor quotes and qualify vendor proposals for scope duplication or omissions.

• Draft and negotiate written subcontractor scopes of work.

• Collaborate with Operations to gather and analyze execution data and apply insights to future bids.

• Handle multiple projects and priorities throughout the business day.

• Engage in pre-bid reviews, post-bid reviews, turnover meetings, after-action reviews, and quarterly business meetings.

• Execute other duties as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is preferred, or equivalent experience/training.

• Minimum of four (4) years’ experience estimating commercial, retail, and multi-family projects of various sizes, including estimating and purchasing activities.

• Extensive general knowledge base, networking, and recent interactions with sub-tier vendors, public authorities, and utilities in the region.

• Strong leadership abilities and organizational skills.

• Excellent time management capabilities.

• Acute sense of urgency.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with comfort in presenting.

• Adaptable in a continuously changing environment.

• Self-motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and relevant software systems.

• Experienced with construction estimating, construction document take-off, and bidding software systems.

• Skilled in project management software applications.

• Capable of working in an office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, as well as occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and balancing.

• Able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
