Senior Engineering Manager, Recommender Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop, mentor, and maintain a high-performing backend team focused on recommender systems.

• Manage dependable, low-latency production systems, ensuring observability and incident response for recommendations.

• Identify regressions in latency, quality, or fairness before they impact users.

• Formulate and implement a technical strategy based on product insight and empathy for the user experience.

• Collaborate with the Machine Learning team to establish roadmaps.

• Balance enhancements for users with investments in infrastructure, reliability, and experimentation.

• Partner with Data Science to jointly manage experimentation processes, tools, and best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of experience in managing engineers, including responsibilities for hiring, performance management, career development, and project delivery.

• Proven experience in leading or constructing production recommender systems at scale.

• In-depth knowledge of high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that cater to millions of users.

• Proficiency in Go, Java/JVM, or a related backend language; familiarity with Postgres, AWS/GCP, and Kubernetes.

• Experience with social networks or two-sided marketplaces in a subscription model.

• Understanding of how machine learning and AI integrate into contemporary recommender systems.

• Knowledge of retrieval infrastructure such as Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, vector search, or feature stores.
