Algo Development Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Armenia, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Oversee a small group of engineers proficient in Python and Java.

• Create and sustain Django services, as well as Flink and Kafka streaming pipelines.

• Lead the technical vision while managing and mentoring the team.

• Evaluate code and assist in transforming algorithm prototypes into robust, production-ready services.

• Recruit, mentor, and develop the team, including hiring senior engineers, conducting performance reviews, and shaping team processes.

• Establish the technical strategy for the Django and Django REST Framework services, Java optimization, and Flink and Kafka streaming pipelines.

• Determine when research methods are suitable for production, recognize when they require reevaluation, and ensure their deployment to production.

• Take ownership of the Django service on PostgreSQL, encompassing data modeling, API surface, performance, and reliability.

• Assess pull requests and uphold quality standards for delivered work.

• Facilitate design reviews, planning sessions, and postmortems.

• Ensure that cross-team initiatives have an assigned owner before commencement.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

• Proven engineering management experience, including responsibility for hiring, performance, and team delivery.

• Proficiency in Python or Java, with working knowledge of the other language.

• Experience in transitioning prototype or notebook projects into production systems that you subsequently managed.

• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL scaling, including query optimization, indexing, and schema design.

• Capability to analyze query plans, identify issues with queries, and resolve them.

• Strong technical judgment and the ability to articulate reasoning to enable the team to take appropriate actions.
