Senior Engineering Manager, Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and develop a team of senior and staff-level platform engineers.

• Set clear expectations, provide constructive feedback, and ensure team performance.

• Direct the technical strategy for infrastructure, shared services, and system architecture.

• Collaborate with staff engineers on architectural decisions and technical trade-offs.

• Oversee the delivery of platform initiatives from the planning phase to production.

• Establish and enhance platform health metrics, focusing on performance, resilience, cost-efficiency, and operational maturity.

• Develop on-call and incident management practices in conjunction with SRE.

• Manage reactive tasks while keeping strategic priorities intact.

• Collaborate with AI platform and security teams to ensure observability, cost-awareness, and secure AI infrastructure.

• Facilitate the adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows.

• Shape the project roadmap alongside the Lead Product Manager.

• Convert strategic objectives into actionable, well-defined plans.

• Represent the platform engineering function across various teams and promote alignment on cross-team initiatives.

• Provide updates to leadership on progress, risks, and technical investments.

• Work with security and legal teams on matters of security, privacy, compliance, and student data responsibilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in a management role, preferably within platform, infrastructure, or developer experience teams.

• Proven experience in managing and developing senior and staff-level individual contributors.

• Established technical credibility with senior and staff engineers.

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with Terraform and Kubernetes is a significant advantage.

• Demonstrated success in partnering with product teams to execute a shared roadmap.

• Experience in fostering alignment among engineering, security, and operations teams.

• Strong delivery and scope management discipline.

• Focus on developer experience, including CI/CD, internal tools, and self-service infrastructure.

• Familiarity with security and compliance standards such as SOC 2 and FERPA.

• Strong understanding of data protection and privacy regulations.

• Experience with large-scale monitoring and observability practices.

• Understanding of the infrastructure needs for AI workloads.

• Experience in assisting engineering teams with the adoption of AI-driven tools and workflows.

• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is advantageous.
