Senior Engineering Manager – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the backend team that is responsible for the foundational systems supporting Forma's benefits platform.

• Take charge of the reliability, scalability, and performance of backend systems.

• Drive comprehensive ownership from architecture to deployment and ensure operational excellence.

• Collaborate with Engineering leadership, Product Management, Security, Customer Operations, and other engineering teams.

• Oversee the product strategy and roadmap for backend platform services.

• Convert platform strategy into quarterly OKRs and ensure the team is accountable for achieving them.

• Promote best practices in system design, code quality, testing, and operational readiness.

• Define platform APIs, shared services, and infrastructure that support company-wide product velocity.

• Manage and develop a team of backend engineers through effective feedback, hiring, coaching, and performance management.

• Foster trust and cultivate an inclusive engineering culture.

• Take responsibility for uptime, incident response, on-call processes, and postmortems.

• Develop and monitor engineering and platform health metrics.

• Establish processes to address ad hoc infrastructure and support needs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience directly managing software engineers, with a background in managing a platform, infrastructure, or backend systems team.

• More than 10 years of experience in developing backend software applications, possessing deep knowledge in distributed systems, APIs, and service-oriented architecture.

• A proven history of building and scaling large-scale, complex distributed systems in a production environment.

• Experience in owning platform reliability, including SLAs/SLOs, incident management, observability, and on-call practices.

• Proven experience in developing engineering talent through hiring, coaching, and performance management.

• Ability to create a collaborative environment by partnering with Product, Security, and other Engineering teams.

• Demonstrated success in driving technical strategy and innovation in a fast-paced, ambiguous setting.

• Practical experience in building with AI-assisted development tools, along with a clear perspective on their utilization, quality, and security standards.

• Experience in fintech is a plus.

• Must indicate whether employment visa sponsorship is required to work in the US.
