Senior Engineering Manager, Member Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of delivery across various squads through sprint shaping, prioritization, backlog grooming, and estimation.

• Determine capacity allocation when multiple squads vie for the same resources.

• Enhance and manage cycle time while maintaining quality standards.

• Deliver production work every sprint for squads under direct management.

• Analyze architecture, pinpoint design weaknesses, and assist in incident response.

• Collaborate with Product Strategists to ensure alignment on scope, delivery, cost, and timelines.

• Mentor managers and cultivate engineers into technical or engineering leadership positions.

• Strategize future headcount, skill requirements, and onboarding processes.

• Define, instruct, and assess AI-assisted development standards throughout engineering.

• Identify, coordinate, and resolve cross-functional engineering challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering, including more than 4 years in direct management of engineers.

• Proven experience in developing leaders, whether a manager who reported to you or an engineer transitioned into a tech lead or EM role with genuine accountability.

• A successful history of delivering mission-critical software to production and managing its ongoing performance.

• Experience in prioritization and estimation for a team, including the ability to decline requests and provide rationale.

• Proficient in providing direct developmental feedback, with at least one instance of managing an individual through underperformance with substantial support.

• Currently or recently involved in shipping production code in at least one layer of the stack: backend (Ruby, Python, etc.), web frontends (React), iOS, or Android, with sufficient knowledge to engage in discussions about the others and critically assess architectural decisions.

• Comfortable working within an expert-generalist team model.

• Hands-on experience directing AI agents in implementing real-world production changes.

• Knowledge of CI/CD, logging, monitoring, and telemetry practices.

• Exceptional written communication skills.

• Familiarity with technologies such as Ruby on Rails, Python, React, native iOS (Swift, SwiftUI), native Android (Kotlin), PostgreSQL, GraphQL, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab, Datadog, and PagerDuty.
