Senior Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the engineering teams focusing on Carrier Integration and Platform Maturity.

• Take ownership of team outcomes, ensuring delivery reliability, setting priorities, and managing risks in collaboration with Product Management.

• Represent the teams in various cross-functional, leadership, partner, and vendor discussions.

• Identify, address, and escalate blockers as necessary.

• Maintain Jira status updates, sprint commitments, stakeholder communications, and visibility on delivery risks.

• Assign responsibilities and deadlines for epics, incident action items, and production-readiness checklists, driving them to closure.

• Oversee engineering quality, including the development of test strategies, contract tests, CI quality gates, and production-readiness reviews.

• Facilitate effective standups, backlog refinement sessions, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

• Adapt team practices in response to advancements in AI that impact software delivery; investigate new practices and conduct experiments.

• Lead a mix of full-time and contract engineering teams while managing capacity effectively.

• Coach direct reports through one-on-ones, development plans, and provide constructive feedback.

• Cultivate engineers into future leads and engineering managers.

• Manage vendor partnerships, which include overseeing SOWs, staffing plans, change orders, performance evaluations, and knowledge transfer.

• Recruit and develop full-time engineers as capabilities transition in-house.

• Collaborate with Product, Data, Security, and Infrastructure on deliverables.

• Ensure proper management and remediation of PHI/PII and security-related findings.

• Advocate for and measure the adoption of agentic AI; develop supporting tools, workflows, and methodologies.

• Utilize AI for leadership planning, risk assessment, decision documentation, one-on-one preparations, and reporting.

• Engage in on-call rotations for critical production incidents and facilitate post-incident improvements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Previous experience managing multiple engineering teams simultaneously.

• Proven experience leading teams comprising both full-time and contract engineers.

• A successful track record of developing talent, including at least one instance of nurturing someone into a leadership or managerial role.

• Experience in building and operating integrations with third-party vendors and partner APIs.

• Familiarity with constructing systems that manage PHI/PII within a regulated framework (e.g., HIPAA).

• Excellent communication skills with senior cross-functional stakeholders, both in written form and during live meetings.

• Strong understanding of scrum and kanban methodologies, with the ability to discern when to apply each appropriately.

• An active interest in how AI is transforming planning and delivery within engineering teams.

• Experience in maintaining risk and dependency tracking (e.g., RAID logs).

• Comfort with on-call duties and managing critical production incidents.

• Hands-on experience with AI coding agents and agentic development workflows.

• A history of promoting AI adoption within a team, including the development of tools or practices that have been widely embraced.

• Specific examples of leveraging AI to enhance leadership effectiveness.

• Technical proficiency to review merge requests, assist in debugging production challenges, critically assess architecture and designs, and identify gaps in testing suites.

• A creative problem-solving mindset paired with discernment on when to dive deeper or escalate issues.
