This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Lead and nurture engineering teams through coaching, constructive feedback, performance management, and talent development.
• Cultivate the growth of senior engineers, technical leads, and emerging leaders.
• Empower technical leads to prototype and validate solutions, make informed technical decisions, and drive initiatives from discovery to implementation.
• Recruit, onboard, retain, and develop engineering talent effectively.
• Collaborate with Engineering leadership on team structure, capacity planning, resource allocation, and workforce requirements.
• Oversee execution and delivery across designated engineering teams, managing priorities, ownership, dependencies, risks, and commitments.
• Enhance operational practices, planning cycles, backlog readiness, delivery tracking, blocker resolution, and team accountability.
• Identify and resolve cross-team dependencies and systemic delivery challenges.
• Utilize streamlined workflows, automated reporting, and engineering and delivery metrics to enhance execution and inform decision-making.
• Communicate progress, risks, challenges, resource requirements, and delivery outcomes to Engineering leadership and stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership in alignment with architecture, quality, reliability, and technical strategy.
• Collaborate with senior and principal engineers on technical approaches, assumptions, architecture, and decision-making.
• Maintain hands-on technical involvement to guide teams and facilitate informed decision-making.
• Propel improvements in engineering practices, architecture, tooling, and operational methodologies.
• Ensure sustainable on-call practices, staffing, and accountability for production systems.
• Establish and utilize SLOs, error budgets, and reliability metrics.
• Lead coordination for major incidents, decision-making, escalation, and stakeholder communication.
• Drive postmortems and monitor corrective actions to ensure closure.
• Collaborate across Engineering to address operational root causes and enhance reliability.
• Work with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to define problem statements, business context, priorities, and success criteria.
• Advocate for AI-assisted development in solution exploration, planning, ticket creation, development, and workflows.
• Improve Product and Engineering working practices, clarifying ownership and handoffs.
• Enable engineers to engage in discovery, requirements definition, technical solutioning, and delivery.
• Identify opportunities for AI, automation, and enhanced engineering practices to boost productivity and organizational effectiveness.
• A minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience, including hands-on roles in enterprise or SaaS settings with a strong emphasis on technical skills and innovation.
• At least 4 years of engineering management and/or people management experience, demonstrating success in leading, coaching, and developing engineering teams.
• Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams or initiatives that span various engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ownership of team execution and delivery, including planning, prioritization, dependency management, risk identification, and continuous improvement of development workflows.
• Experience collaborating with senior Engineering and Product leadership on organizational priorities, resource needs, technical trade-offs, and execution strategies.
• Familiarity with production services management, including on-call responsibilities, SLOs, incident response, and postmortems.
• Experience in highly collaborative Product and Engineering environments where engineers actively participate in discovery, requirements definition, technical solutioning, and delivery.
• Strong technical judgment with the ability to guide design decisions, challenge assumptions, and empower senior and lead engineers to take ownership of technical initiatives.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of fostering clarity across engineering, product, and other cross-functional teams.
• Proficient in cloud platform management and architecture, preferably Azure, supporting scalable, high-performance systems and cloud-native deployments.
• Strong Java/Kotlin development expertise, with the ability to offer technical guidance across backend services and microservices development.
• Experience leveraging or leading teams that utilize AI-assisted software development tools and workflows.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Recent hands-on coding experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration and deployment is an advantage.
• Experience with the React framework is a plus.
• Experience in designing and implementing microservice architectures that support distributed systems and system reliability is a plus.
