Senior Editor – Journal of Animal Ecology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Evaluate submitted manuscripts for appropriateness, select Associate Editors and reviewers, and make decisions based on their feedback and personal judgment.

• Proactively promote the Journal and the BES within networks and at conferences.

• Request contributions across all areas pertinent to the Journal.

• Determine key subject areas that the Journal should concentrate on.

• Collect feedback from fellow academic ecologists to propose procedural changes, develop new initiatives, and contribute to strategic discussions.

• Identify and recruit new Associate Editors, including through open recruitment calls, with an emphasis on diverse representation and involvement.

• Assist the editorial office team in identifying papers for promotion through blogs, videos, podcasts, and other media.

• Contribute to the Journal’s advancement and engage in discussions regarding cross-journal initiatives with individuals involved in other BES journals.

• Serve as Associate Editor for a limited number of manuscripts.

• Actively utilize social media platforms to help promote the Journal.

• Demonstrated evidence of an active and relevant publication history.

• Knowledge and understanding of the subject area that complements the expertise of the current Editors.

• Experience in reviewing (essential) as well as other editorial responsibilities (highly desirable).

• Capability to collaborate as part of a team of Editors, thinking both strategically and creatively.

• Ability to work autonomously and prioritize among various active projects.

• Skill in forming, communicating with, and operating within scientific networks, and engaging with other relevant audiences, including through social media usage.

• Capacity to evaluate multiple information sources or perspectives and make decisive actions.

• A strong commitment to the position and the mission of the BES, along with a desire to explore new opportunities for the development and enhancement of journal publishing.
