Senior Director, Underwriting/Pricing, Certified Actuary (FSA/ASA)

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Analyze claims data to develop projections for cost-of-care related to both existing customer renewals and new business opportunities.

• Engage with clients as necessary to address discrepancies in projections and rate-setting methodologies.

• Integrate administrative cost projections and business unit profit objectives to determine final rates quoted to clients.

• Oversee cost pricing, which includes data evaluation, underwriting construction, and profitability assessment.

• Complete quarterly savings reports for existing clients and provide estimated savings for prospective clients.

• Review utilization, cost trends, and other assumptions utilized in pricing models.

• Assess the cost implications of new product initiatives and suggest rate structures to optimize profitability while ensuring sufficient returns for risk.

• Ensure that suitable underwriting policies and procedures are applied to both new and existing business, ensuring timely responses.

• Offer recommendations on product and customer rates to senior management and facilitate the approval process.

• Collaborate with clients, customers, and internal staff to resolve issues related to provided information and Request For Proposal language and response expectations.

• Support various projects from Business Unit and Corporate Finance.

• Lead a team of pricing and reporting analysts.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in underwriting, including a minimum of 5 years in underwriting management.

• Proven experience in leading a team.

• Comprehensive understanding of the healthcare and health insurance sectors.

• Capability to develop and document innovative approaches to underwriting new products.

• Experience in analyzing medical and related administrative cost data.

• Strong knowledge of underwriting principles within a managed care context.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to initiate tasks independently and work autonomously.

• Proficient analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.

• Willingness to learn new product lines and adapt to a dynamic environment.

• Proficient working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Product suite, particularly Excel.

• Experience managing large datasets using tools such as MS Access.
