Senior Director, Power Interconnection

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and implement grid interconnection strategies for hyperscale data center campuses in targeted European markets.

• Act as the main leadership contact for Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Distribution System Operators (DSOs) on customer-utility matters.

• Supervise third-party vendors that engage with utilities concerning connection applications, capacity reservations, and connection agreements.

• Monitor grid connection queue positions across the portfolio and prepare the necessary project maturity/readiness documentation in compliance with the EU Grids Package and national queue-reform regulations.

• Negotiate connection agreements that include flexible and curtailable demand structures to expedite time-to-power in areas with grid constraints.

• Collaborate with customer development teams and WMCC development and engineering teams to synchronize interconnection milestones with project development timelines.

• Create and oversee an electric regulatory engagement program with national regulators and industry organizations regarding large-load connection and grid flexibility policies.

• Provide interconnection cost, timeline, and risk assessments to commercial and finance teams to facilitate investment decisions.

• Manage third-party consultants and advisors engaged in grid impact studies, permitting support, and connection negotiations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in grid interconnection, transmission/distribution planning, or utility-facing power development within Europe.

• Proven experience negotiating with TSOs/DSOs and navigating the national grid connection queue processes.

• Comprehensive understanding of EU, UK, and national grid codes, connection agreements, and queue-reform frameworks.

• A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, energy, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• Experience managing interconnection activities across various countries or regulatory markets.

• Exceptional negotiation, stakeholder management, and cross-functional coordination abilities.

• Willingness and capability to travel both domestically and internationally as project demands require.

• Experience specific to hyperscale data centers, large industrial operations, or other significant load power development.

• Established working relationships with National Grid ESO, TenneT, Elia, EirGrid, or other prominent European TSOs/DSOs.

• Knowledge of flexible/curtailable connection structures and battery energy storage system (BESS) integration.
