Senior Director, Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the engineering strategy and convert the Platform North Star into architectural priorities for both human and AI-driven use cases.

• Spearhead the shift from application-centric integration to a governed, contract-driven, API-first platform.

• Collaborate with the Architecture team to create a robust technical foundation that supports long-term integrity while ensuring near-term delivery.

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Platform Engineering team.

• Cultivate a resilient team culture and promote platform-first alignment, adoption, and accountability throughout Engineering.

• Manage the Platform as a customer-facing product for internal developers, external partners, and AI agents.

• Create API contracts that facilitate authentication, observability, usage metering, and scalable commercial models.

• Develop a governed, unified entry point for Miovision's strategic capabilities, utilizing adoption data and feedback from developers.

• Create reusable and standardized capabilities in collaboration with Data Science, integrating models and data products.

• Review architecture, analyze code, and prototype solutions alongside engineers.

• Establish technical foundations for AI-assisted development and implement AI-native practices.

• Collaborate with Developer Operations on automation and tooling initiatives.

• Guide teams through the practical evolution of complex distributed-system architectures.

• Set standards for reliability, observability, security, and operational readiness.

• Integrate identity, authorization, auditability, guardrails, lifecycle, compatibility, and service-health standards into the platform.

• Ensure the Platform scales effectively with products, customers, and the engineering organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 15 years of software engineering experience with a strong focus on platform engineering, distributed systems, and large-scale architecture.

• Demonstrated success in leading, scaling, and mentoring senior engineering teams within highly complex, multi-product environments.

• Extensive technical knowledge in API design, microservices, contract governance, and full API lifecycle management.

• Practical experience in executing platform strategies that transform how engineering teams leverage AI for software development, verification, and delivery, including exposure to MCP and machine-readable interfaces.

• Highly credible technical leadership with a capacity to explore code and prototype solutions.

• In-depth familiarity with cloud-native architectures, AWS, Kubernetes, modern CI/CD practices, and programming languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js.

• Proven experience in driving significant architectural or engineering operating-model transformations.

• Strong understanding of reliability, telemetry, security, and operational excellence in large-scale production systems.

• Exceptional communication and influencing skills for effective collaboration with Product Management, Architecture, and C-suite stakeholders.

• Experience in monetizing a platform, scaling a marketplace, or creating a third-party developer ecosystem is highly preferred.
