This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Develop and uphold the enterprise data strategy in alignment with the company’s North Star architecture.
• Design and enhance the data platform, which includes the semantic layer, operational data layer, and integration patterns.
• Create domain-aligned data products with clear ownership, quality expectations, and service level agreements (SLAs).
• Collaborate with enterprise architecture on platform, cloud, and integration strategies.
• Supervise data pipelines, ingestion patterns, event streaming, and operational data flows.
• Direct the delivery of Member 360, Actuarial Valuation data, financial reporting data, policy and claims domains, and other priority data products.
• Ensure the successful execution of strategic data initiatives, including CDC enablement, event modeling, and read models.
• Implement processes for deployment, monitoring, observability, and data quality measurement.
• Establish and lead the Data Council with business and technology leaders.
• Define policies regarding data, including lineage, cataloging, access controls, retention, and metadata standards.
• Create a data ownership model and a data quality framework featuring automated checks, issue management, and scorecards.
• Build and manage multidisciplinary data squads across engineering, modeling, analytics enablement, and governance.
• Develop a product-oriented team structure aligned with Policy, Claims, Finance, Member Experience, and Agent Experience domains.
• Collaborate with AAAL Academy on talent development, training initiatives, and skill assessments.
• Encourage accountability, transparency, curiosity, collaboration, and ongoing improvement.
• Work with Finance, Actuarial, Product, Member Services, Distribution, and Digital Experience teams to achieve business outcomes.
• Convert business needs into data priorities that have measurable impacts.
• Relay data insights, progress, risks, and decisions to senior leadership.
• Support modernization efforts, including the decommissioning of Life+, platform migrations, experience rebuilds, and operational optimization.
• 10 years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or data analytics leadership roles.
• Proven experience leading data programs in a regulated industry, such as life insurance, financial services, or healthcare.
• Demonstrated success in building modern data platforms in cloud environments.
• Strong comprehension and proven experience in establishing trusted data governance, metadata management, lineage, and data quality principles.
• Experience in leading technology teams through transformation and modernization processes.
• Ability to clearly communicate, drive alignment with, and influence senior leaders.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex concepts succinctly.
• Preferred: Familiarity with Snowflake, DBT, event streaming architectures, API integration patterns, and semantic modeling.
• Preferred: Experience in building domain-based and business-empowered data products.
• Preferred: Knowledge of all tiers of medallion data architectures, data lakes, data warehouses, and data lakehouse concepts.
• Preferred: Understanding of Member 360 concepts, actuarial data needs, and operational analytics.
