This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Formulate and implement strategies while providing counsel to senior leadership and the business regarding litigation, policy engagement, and advocacy related to laws, regulations, and trends influencing the pharmaceutical sector.
• Recognize and evaluate proactive litigation and advocacy prospects that further Lilly’s policy goals.
• Offer litigation guidance to Government Affairs, Communications, Regulatory Affairs, and Lilly Value and Access on legal policy and strategic priorities.
• Compose and review communications, comment letters, and other related documents.
• Oversee litigation, government investigations, and disputes from strategic planning through to resolution.
• Lead and coordinate with external counsel, managing budgets and internal collaboration.
• Interact with government agencies, state attorneys general, trade associations, industry stakeholders, and external policy and legal networks.
• Cultivate and sustain relationships across Lilly’s legal and business departments.
• Track and evaluate litigation, enforcement, and policy changes impacting drug pricing, access, and reimbursement.
• Report directly to the Associate Vice President, Assistant General Counsel – Litigation, Legal Policy & Strategy.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and a bachelor’s degree.
• Active legal practice license.
• A clerkship completed at a federal court of appeals.
• At least 8 years of experience as a practicing attorney, including oversight of complex litigation and formulating and executing strategies within a global company or prestigious law firm.
• Established history of success in complex litigation at both trial and appellate courts, covering discovery, dispositive motions, trials, and appeals.
• Experience in litigating constitutional claims, statutory and regulatory challenges, and Administrative Procedure Act (APA) matters.
• Proven capability in addressing complex policy issues and quickly mastering intricate new subject matters.
• Strong client-service focus and executive presence.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills across various levels of the organization.
• Authorization to work full-time in the United States; Lilly will not provide sponsorship for work authorization or visas.
• Preferred: experience in litigating class actions, matters related to healthcare programs including Medicare, Medicaid, or 340B, and fraud and abuse laws such as the Anti-Kickback Statute (AKS) and the False Claims Act.
• Preferred: experience in managing litigation within the pharmaceutical industry or another highly regulated field.
• Passion for utilizing artificial intelligence and emerging technologies in litigation and legal practice.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and effectiveness with senior leadership.
• Strong judgment and keen attention to detail.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence others.
