Senior DevOps Engineer, Couchbase, Confluent

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ukraine.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and manage AWS infrastructure (EKS/ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM).

• Take ownership of Couchbase in a production environment, handling cluster architecture and sizing, buckets and indexes (GSI), XDCR replication, backup/restore, upgrades, and performance optimization.

• Manage the Confluent / Kafka platform, which includes either Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud, focusing on topic and partition design, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect connectors, consumer lag, throughput optimization, and upgrades.

• Operate stateful workloads on production Kubernetes, utilizing Couchbase and Kafka operators, Helm, along with cluster scaling and upgrades.

• Oversee all infrastructure as code using Terraform.

• Develop and sustain CI/CD pipelines for both application and data services.

• Manage monitoring, logging, and alerting across the platform, ensuring Couchbase and Kafka health.

• Lead incident response efforts and conduct post-mortems.

• Provide support for data and AI/LLM workloads while ensuring cloud costs remain manageable.

• Collaborate closely with Python backend, data, and AI teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps / SRE / platform engineering, with at least 3 years of experience managing AWS and Kubernetes in a production setting.

• Expert knowledge of Couchbase: hands-on production management of Couchbase Server clusters (architecture, XDCR, indexing, backup/restore, upgrades, performance tuning).

• Expert knowledge of Confluent / Apache Kafka: hands-on production operation of Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud (brokers, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, partitioning, consumer lag, scaling).

• Experience with Kubernetes in a production environment, including the management of stateful workloads with operators.

• Proficient in AWS services: EKS, ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC.

• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code.

• Design and ownership of CI/CD pipelines.

• Familiarity with observability and incident response tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / CloudWatch).

• Knowledge of Docker and containerization.

• Proficient scripting skills in Python and Bash.

• Strong foundational knowledge of Linux and networking.

• Fluent in both English and Ukrainian.

• Preferred qualifications: Confluent Certified Administrator for Apache Kafka, Couchbase certification, CKA; experience with Couchbase Capella or Confluent Cloud managed services; familiarity with Couchbase Autonomous Operator or Confluent for Kubernetes / Strimzi; ksqlDB / Kafka Streams; CDC pipelines (e.g., Debezium); ArgoCD / GitOps; infrastructure for ML/LLM workloads; FinOps / cloud cost optimization.
