Senior DevOps Engineer, Couchbase, Confluent

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and manage AWS infrastructure, encompassing EKS/ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC, and IAM.

• Take responsibility for Couchbase in production, including cluster architecture and sizing, bucket and GSI index management, XDCR replication, backup and restore processes, upgrades, and performance optimization.

• Manage the Confluent / Kafka platform, which includes either Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud, focusing on topic and partition design, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect connectors, consumer lag, throughput optimization, and upgrades.

• Operate stateful production Kubernetes workloads, which involve Couchbase and Kafka operators, Helm, cluster scaling, and upgrades.

• Administer infrastructure through code using Terraform.

• Develop and sustain CI/CD pipelines for application and data services.

• Oversee monitoring, logging, and alerting across the platform, ensuring Couchbase and Kafka health.

• Lead incident response efforts and conduct post-mortems.

• Provide support for data and AI/LLM workloads.

• Maintain control over cloud expenditures.

• Collaborate closely with Python backend, data, and AI teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in DevOps / SRE / platform engineering, with at least 3 years of experience managing AWS and Kubernetes in a production environment.

• Expert knowledge of Couchbase, with practical experience in the administration of Couchbase Server clusters, including architecture, XDCR, indexing, backup and restore, upgrades, and performance optimization.

• Advanced expertise in Confluent / Apache Kafka, with hands-on experience operating either Confluent Platform or Confluent Cloud, including brokers, Schema Registry, Kafka Connect, partitioning, consumer lag, and scaling.

• Proven experience in Kubernetes production, particularly in running stateful workloads with operators.

• Familiarity with AWS services: EKS, ECS, Lambda, S3, RDS, VPC.

• Proficient in Terraform / infrastructure as code.

• Experience in designing and owning CI/CD pipelines.

• Knowledge of observability and incident response tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK / CloudWatch.

• Competence in Docker and containerization.

• Proficient in scripting with Python and Bash.

• Strong foundational knowledge in Linux and networking.

• Must be based in Poland.

• Fluent in English.

• Preferred qualifications: Confluent Certified Administrator for Apache Kafka, Couchbase certification, CKA; experience with Couchbase Capella or Confluent Cloud managed services; Couchbase Autonomous Operator or Confluent for Kubernetes / Strimzi; ksqlDB / Kafka Streams; CDC pipelines like Debezium; ArgoCD / GitOps; infrastructure for ML/LLM workloads; FinOps / cloud cost optimization.
