This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and uphold well-documented, tested dbt models across bronze, silver, and gold layers.
• Generate reusable business models and ensure consistent metric definitions.
• Enhance canonical models for firms, clients, employees, projects, time, WIP, invoices, cash receipts, and revenue.
• Reconcile financial and operational data with source systems.
• Investigate discrepancies and establish measurable data-quality controls.
• Create entity crosswalks and historical logic for acquisitions, firm migrations, and changes in source systems.
• Improve ingestion processes from SQL Server, cloud databases, SaaS platforms, and APIs using Python and SQL.
• Design incremental, idempotent loads, and facilitate reliable backfilling.
• Implement automated tests, freshness checks, schema-change monitoring, alerts, logging, and operational documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering colleagues to ensure secure access, firm- and user-level data isolation, and optimize Databricks/dbt performance and cost efficiency.
• Translate business requirements into reusable data products and document data contracts with Operations, Finance, HR, and Engineering.
• Participate in Git-based development, CI/CD, code reviews, and adhere to shared engineering standards.
• Familiarize yourself with the existing platform and align priorities for core models, reconciliation gaps, and the data platform roadmap.
• Deliver priority dbt models complete with definitions, tests, documentation, and source traceability.
• Establish reconciliation checks and exception reporting for key financial data.
• Mentor teammates and contribute to shaping engineering standards.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related field.
• Equivalent depth of relevant experience is welcome.
• Proficient in advanced SQL with strong production data-modeling capabilities.
• Experience with dimensional models, historical data, and reusable business definitions.
• Extensive production experience with dbt, including testing, documentation, macros, dependencies, and deployment workflows.
• Capability to reconcile financial and operational data and investigate system discrepancies.
• Strong Python skills and experience in building ingestion or automation for APIs, databases, and external systems.
• Understanding of incremental loading, change capture, idempotency, backfills, and schema evolution.
• Familiarity with Git, code reviews, CI/CD, data-quality monitoring, and production data pipelines.
• Working knowledge of least-privilege access, sensitive data handling, and secrets management.
• Willingness to learn Databricks.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, strong ownership, and sound judgment.
• Preferred: Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, SQL warehouses, Databricks Jobs, and Workflows.
• Preferred: Familiarity with Azure, Azure Blob Storage, Windows-hosted ingestion, or on-premises SQL Server environments.
• Preferred: Background in accounting or professional services data, including billing, WIP, revenue, or financial reconciliation.
• Preferred: Knowledge of Aiwyn, Practice CS, CCH Axcess, NetSuite, or UKG.
• Preferred: Experience with multi-firm or multi-tenant data platforms, row-level security, entity mapping, and historical reporting continuity.
