Senior Data Architect – Azure, Databricks, Cosmos DB

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Serbia, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Design and take ownership of enterprise-level data platform architectures on Azure.

• Evaluate current data environments to uncover opportunities for enhancing scalability, performance, maintainability, and data quality.

• Define and deploy contemporary data platform architectures utilizing Azure services and Databricks.

• Create reusable and metadata-driven frameworks for data ingestion.

• Architect and optimize solutions for processing both structured and unstructured data.

• Design and maintain scalable data models along with analytical platforms.

• Specify tactical enhancements and long-term target-state architectures.

• Produce architecture documentation, technical specifications, and guidelines for implementation.

• Work alongside engineering teams, stakeholders, and business users to convert requirements into scalable solutions.

• Establish best practices regarding data governance, architectural standards, data quality, and platform reliability.

• Assist engineering teams during the implementation process and the adoption of architectural frameworks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience as a Data Architect with comprehensive ownership of architecture.

• Extensive hands-on experience with the Azure Data Platform.

• A minimum of 4 years of recent experience with Azure.

• Strong proficiency with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure SQL / SQL Server, Azure Cosmos DB, and Databricks.

• Substantial experience in Data Engineering, Data Warehousing, ETL/ELT architectures, Data Modeling, Incremental Processing, and Cloud Data Platforms.

• Advanced skills in SQL and Python.

• Experience in designing and implementing large-scale cloud data solutions.

• Significant experience working with both structured and unstructured data.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

• In-depth knowledge of Synapse Pipelines, Spark Pools, Serverless SQL, Dedicated SQL Pools, workload optimization, architectural design, data lake integration patterns, and large-scale analytical platforms.

• Practical experience with Azure Cosmos DB focusing on data modeling, partition key strategies, indexing, scalability design, throughput and RU optimization, cost optimization, consistency models, Change Feed, and distributed database architectures.

• Strong experience in architecture ownership and decision-making.

• Experience in modernizing and enhancing existing data platforms.

• Ability to swiftly evaluate complex environments and provide actionable insights.

• Experience in designing reusable and scalable data ingestion frameworks.

• Profound understanding of structured and unstructured data processing.

• Strong data modeling expertise for enterprise analytics platforms.

• Ability to balance immediate business needs with a long-term architectural vision.

• Technology-agnostic approach when selecting tools and services based on requirements, scalability, performance, and cost.

• Experience in producing implementation-ready architecture deliverables.
