Senior Data and BI Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and sustain data models that cater to warehouse, analytical, and reporting needs.

• Create and uphold metadata, data definitions, mappings, and documentation for transformations.

• Develop and refine ETL processes that integrate data from sanctioned sources.

• Establish warehouse tables, views, relationships, and other elements that enable dependable analysis.

• Convert mission requirements and business rules into data transformations, calculations, and reporting logic.

• Create dashboards, operational reports, analytical products, and visual representations.

• Develop reusable reporting components and facilitate approved self-service reporting capabilities.

• Validate mappings from source to target, including record counts, totals, calculations, and reporting outputs.

• Ensure consistency among warehouse structures, analytical models, and published reports.

• Enhance data processing, queries, models, refresh behaviors, and report performance.

• Investigate and resolve issues related to data transformations, warehouse components, calculations, and visualizations.

• Collaborate with relevant technical teams on schema and source-system changes.

• Maintain lineage and traceability between source data, transformations, models, and reporting products.

• Implement approved access requirements and coordinate security-related changes with responsible personnel.

• Support automated testing, regression checks, defect resolution, and user acceptance testing.

• Conduct demonstrations and incorporate feedback from approved stakeholders.

• Adhere to established version control, review, deployment, and change-management procedures.

• Maintain technical specifications, test evidence, deployment instructions, and operational documentation.

• Support operational handoffs, knowledge transfer, and the continuous improvement of data and BI solutions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Secret clearance or higher.

• At least eight years of relevant professional experience.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data analytics, or a related field, or an equivalent qualification.

• Proven experience in developing data models.

• Demonstrated experience in designing ETL processes.

• Experience in building data warehouse components.

• Familiarity with creating dashboards and reports.

• Capability to design, build, and maintain metadata and visualizations that support reliable analysis and actionable insights.

• Applicable DoD 8570 certification for the assigned duties.

• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate or a relevant data engineering certification is preferred but not mandatory.

• Experience with Power BI, Power Query, DAX, and SQL is preferred.

• Background in supporting federal or Department of Defense data and reporting environments is preferred.

• Familiarity with dimensional modeling, shared semantic models, and reusable analytical measures is preferred.

• Experience with SSIS or similar ETL/ELT platforms is preferred.

• Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, lineage, and authoritative-source definitions is preferred.

• Experience in developing accessible dashboards and self-service reporting products is preferred.

• Background in implementing automated reconciliation, data-quality, and regression checks is preferred.

• Familiarity with cloud data platforms, version control, and controlled deployment processes is preferred.

• Strong analytical troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills are preferred.
