
Senior Counsel β Biotech Patent Law, Biosimilars

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
β’ Formulate, implement, and execute market access strategies for Amgen's biosimilar and/or innovator products.
β’ Conduct analyses to ensure freedom-to-operate for drug substances, drug products, formulations, processes, and treatment methodologies.
β’ Identify pertinent patents and carry out prior-art investigations.
β’ Evaluate third-party patents and create compelling legal arguments.
β’ Prepare legal opinions and collaborate with experts.
β’ Undertake pre-litigation tasks.
β’ Create and execute global freedom-to-operate strategies in partnership with in-house attorneys.
β’ Draft and file patent applications.
β’ Provide support for patent litigation.
β’ Develop and advise on intellectual property strategies linked to Amgen's business and research activities.
β’ Function independently, as part of legal teams, and within cross-functional business groups.
β’ Anticipate domestic and global travel at 10%.
β’ Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from an accredited law institution.
β’ Licensed to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.
β’ A minimum of four (4) years of experience in intellectual property law practice.
β’ Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
β’ Preferred: 7+ years of experience in patent or intellectual property law.
β’ Experience in U.S. and/or international intellectual property law related to biotechnology in a law firm or biotechnology/pharmaceutical company.
β’ Knowledge of U.S. and/or international adversarial proceedings, including patent litigation, Inter Partes Reviews, Post Grant Reviews, or oppositions.
β’ Experience in developing and executing a global freedom-to-operate strategy.
β’ Preferred: Undergraduate degree in the sciences.
β’ Preferred: Working knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, structural biology, pharmaceutics, or chemical engineering.
β’ Preferred: Advanced degree, such as a Master's or Ph.D., or research experience in a relevant scientific field.
β’ Strong judgment, analytical capabilities, legal drafting, and both oral and written communication skills.
β’ Proficient management and client advisory skills.
β’ Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, navigate uncertainty, prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and manage complex projects.
β’ Availability to work during client group hours.
