Senior Counsel – Biotech Patent Law, Biosimilars

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Formulate, implement, and execute market access strategies for Amgen's biosimilar and/or innovator products.

• Conduct analyses to ensure freedom-to-operate for drug substances, drug products, formulations, processes, and treatment methodologies.

• Identify pertinent patents and carry out prior-art investigations.

• Evaluate third-party patents and create compelling legal arguments.

• Prepare legal opinions and collaborate with experts.

• Undertake pre-litigation tasks.

• Create and execute global freedom-to-operate strategies in partnership with in-house attorneys.

• Draft and file patent applications.

• Provide support for patent litigation.

• Develop and advise on intellectual property strategies linked to Amgen's business and research activities.

• Function independently, as part of legal teams, and within cross-functional business groups.

• Anticipate domestic and global travel at 10%.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from an accredited law institution.

• Licensed to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction.

• A minimum of four (4) years of experience in intellectual property law practice.

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

• Preferred: 7+ years of experience in patent or intellectual property law.

• Experience in U.S. and/or international intellectual property law related to biotechnology in a law firm or biotechnology/pharmaceutical company.

• Knowledge of U.S. and/or international adversarial proceedings, including patent litigation, Inter Partes Reviews, Post Grant Reviews, or oppositions.

• Experience in developing and executing a global freedom-to-operate strategy.

• Preferred: Undergraduate degree in the sciences.

• Preferred: Working knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, structural biology, pharmaceutics, or chemical engineering.

• Preferred: Advanced degree, such as a Master's or Ph.D., or research experience in a relevant scientific field.

• Strong judgment, analytical capabilities, legal drafting, and both oral and written communication skills.

• Proficient management and client advisory skills.

• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, navigate uncertainty, prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines, and manage complex projects.

• Availability to work during client group hours.
