Senior Combat Game Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Generate, propose, and prototype gameplay concepts for essential combat and real-time mechanics and systems.

• Design combat characters, including their feel, behavior, abilities, and encounters across various environments.

• Implement combatant characters utilizing animations and behaviors through state machines, behavior trees, visual effects, sound effects, arena layouts, pacing, level design tools, and scripting systems.

• Develop design documents, content briefs, system outlines, and other resources to convey necessary information to relevant teams.

• Collaborate with various disciplines and ensure the appropriate partners are engaged and informed throughout the development process.

• Remain updated on industry trends, new game genres, game design techniques, and audiovisual advancements.

• Function with a high level of autonomy and initiative.

• Contribute to defining the objectives of the combat design team.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5+ years of experience in the production of AAA games for consoles and PC.

• 2+ years of experience delivering third-person melee combat titles in AI, combat, or systems design roles.

• Competence with at least one game editor; experience with multiple engines is preferred.

• Outstanding ability to conceptualize, pitch, and implement game systems and features using various tools, technologies, and visual languages.

• Clear comprehension of creative and game development processes.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Demonstrated success in creating engaging and enjoyable gameplay, scenarios, and encounters.

• Self-driven, diligent team player with the ability to both provide and receive feedback and critique.

• Enthusiasm for combat-oriented games.

• Experience with visual and/or text-based scripting for avatar behaviors, combat actions, and hero state-machine actions.

• Proficiency in English is essential due to regular communication with international colleagues, partners, and stakeholders outside of Québec.

• Familiarity with the Lua scripting language is a plus.

• A solid understanding of action-adventure genre design, player psychology, and emerging industry trends is beneficial.

• Some experience with Maya, 3DS Max, or similar 3D software is advantageous.

• Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, and Perforce is a plus.
