Senior Coder Abstractor – Inpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Evaluate each medical record to identify the items that will be coded and abstracted.

• Precisely code and abstract inpatient medical records in accordance with work assignments and productivity expectations.

• Assign ICD10-CM diagnosis, ICD10-PCS procedure codes, and CPT-4 procedure codes based on national and departmental guidelines, as well as the AHIMA Code of Ethics.

• Abstract and/or edit medical record data as stipulated by departmental protocols.

• Assign and input charges for ER evaluation and management levels, infusions, injections, and procedures.

• Collaborate with physicians and Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists to seek clarification or additional information from the medical records.

• Maintain a well-organized system for personal coding reference materials.

• Engage in educational opportunities to enhance and maintain coding skills.

⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Health Information, or CCS certification with at least 2 years of coding experience will be taken into account.

• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) is mandatory.

• A minimum of one to three years of experience using ICD10-CM and ICD10-PCS coding systems is essential.

• Proven ability to meet productivity and quality benchmarks is required.

• At least two years of inpatient coding experience, including the coding of highly complex diagnoses and procedures, is necessary.

• Familiarity with Prebill processes is expected.

• Effective communication and collaboration with CDI to ensure accurate coding and optimal billing results are required.

• Must possess the necessary employee vaccinations or lab-confirmed immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella.

• Must obtain a flu vaccine during the flu season in the year of hiring and each subsequent year, or have an approved medical or religious exemption.
