This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Assume technical leadership for essential components of the production OpenStack platform while enhancing their architecture.
• Design OpenStack Networking with an emphasis on Neutron and incorporate virtual networks into data center and backbone infrastructure.
• Examine intricate packet flows across compute nodes, virtual switches, overlay networks, routers, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Advance network architecture for both IPv4 and IPv6, including routing, NAT, DHCP, DNS, security groups, and floating IPs.
• Strategize and facilitate upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle operations for the OpenStack platform.
• Automate repetitive tasks and platform modifications using Ansible, Python, Terraform or OpenTofu, and Git.
• Continuously enhance monitoring, alerting, capacity management, and operational technical standards.
• Evaluate performance, stability, and scalability challenges across various technical layers.
• Manage complex incidents and issues at the 2nd and 3rd levels, deriving sustainable technical enhancements.
• Work closely with network, storage, Kubernetes, and automation teams.
• Document architectural choices, operational procedures, and automations in a manner that is both auditable and traceable.
• Mentor junior colleagues and actively disseminate knowledge within the team.
• Several years of professional experience in engineering and managing complex Linux, network, or cloud infrastructures.
• Extensive hands-on experience with OpenStack in live production settings.
• Strong expertise in OpenStack Networking, particularly with Neutron, OVN, or Open vSwitch.
• Excellent Linux skills and a robust understanding of virtualization.
• Proficient in handling routing, switching, VLANs, overlay networks, MTU, DNS, DHCP, NAT, and firewalling.
• Experience in systematic troubleshooting across multiple technical layers.
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible; knowledge of Python, Terraform, or OpenTofu is a plus.
• Proficient in Git and maintaining a reproducible, version-controlled work style.
• Knowledgeable in monitoring, performance analysis, as well as upgrade and lifecycle processes.
• Willingness and enthusiasm to assume technical responsibilities and transparently represent architectural decisions.
• Proficient in both German and English languages.
• Completed IT training, a technical degree, or a comparable qualification along with several years of relevant professional experience.
