This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Design, manage, and continually enhance secure, scalable, resilient, and cost-effective AWS environments.
• Develop and refine infrastructure-as-code standards, reusable architectures, configuration baselines, account structures, tagging, and lifecycle practices.
• Lead initiatives for cloud infrastructure migrations, modernization, and reduction of technical debt through stable operations.
• Improve reliability through Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs), capacity planning, resilience testing, and proactive identification of infrastructure risks.
• Design and evaluate backup, disaster recovery, and multi-AZ or multi-region strategies.
• Establish observability across metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerts, and runbooks utilizing Datadog and AWS-native services.
• Serve as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure incidents, coordinating recovery efforts, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
• Minimize operational toil through automation, tooling, procedures, and ongoing improvements.
• Collaborate with Security and Architecture teams on IAM, network segmentation, encryption, secrets management, vulnerability remediation, and cloud guardrails.
• Assist in cloud governance across accounts, policies, auditability, asset inventory, and compliance practices.
• Optimize cloud consumption and capacity through FinOps practices, including forecasting, cost allocation, rightsizing, and Savings Plans.
• Provide technical leadership by conducting architecture reviews, establishing infrastructure standards, maintaining documentation, and offering mentorship.
• Collaborate with application and engineering teams to ensure infrastructure readiness, implement safe operational changes, and enhance reliability.
• Convert business and engineering requirements into effective cloud solutions while communicating risks, trade-offs, dependencies, and necessary investments.
• Over 5 years of progressive hands-on experience in cloud infrastructure, cloud operations, systems engineering, or platform engineering.
• Extensive hands-on experience managing production AWS environments.
• Strong expertise in AWS, covering IAM, VPC networking, compute, storage, managed databases, load balancing, DNS, monitoring, and backup/disaster recovery services.
• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code, preferably with Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation, including modular design, state management, code review, and policy guardrails.
• Experience in applying reliability engineering practices, such as SLOs/SLIs, error budgets, observability, incident command, root-cause analysis, post-incident learning, and resilience testing.
• In-depth knowledge of cloud networking and security, including DNS, routing, connectivity, security groups/firewalls, identity federation, encryption, secrets management, and least-privilege access.
• Familiarity with containers and Kubernetes/EKS, covering cluster infrastructure, resource management, scaling, and troubleshooting.
• Proficient in scripting or automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Comfortable using APIs and version control to manage infrastructure securely.
• Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices, including tagging, rightsizing, reservations/Savings Plans, cost allocation, and capacity forecasting.
• Strong systems-thinking and troubleshooting abilities.
• Capable of conveying technical concepts and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• AWS certification, such as Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or Security Specialty, is advantageous.
